Though fairly great to look at for all its amber hues and with a decent nose, Campus is actually one of the most disappointing Belgians I’ve had in a long while. Seems overcarbonated and has too powerful a presence of spices to be enjoyable for me. Head gave way too quickly as well. Seems like a rushed effort.

Aroma seemd like a blend between the classic belgian strong standard spices, malt and often caramel sugars that I associate with the style and a sweet cider. It was kind of neat. Hazy amber body and then more hints of cider in the flavour. Sweet malts with something muted in behind. Quick finish and a somewhat thin mouthfeel. OK.

Bottle at Fall Beerfest In Toronto 2004. Amber/light copper in colour. Aroma was slightly sweet, some minor alcohol and light malt. Flavour was lightly malty, some hops, a bit of yeast with some pepper. Light body, medium carbonation. FInishes fairly light with a yeasty bitterness.

Bottle at dougshoemaker’s, amber color, very nice white head, nice lacing, aroma of alcohol, malt and also smells sweet, taste of honey makes it sweet, hint of fruit at end.

Alcohol whaff in the nose, dark shimmering amber color, thick frothy head. Caramelly sweet malt. Dainty spiced end - cinnamon and pepper. Alcohol a-go-go that just kicks this up a notch. The flavors really blend well. A heavy beer that I really enjoyed.

Reddish-gold colour with a small white head. Yeasty aroma, a little sour. Flavour is sweeter than the aroma suggests, with some citric notes and a slight alcohol burn in the finish. An average Belgian. [Toronto Christmas Party ’04]

Doug’s, 2004. Apparently, I’m way out of wack on this one, but I really liked this. Dark yellow pour with a medium white head. A really impressive taste - woody malt notes and a nice sweetness. A little frightening that I found it so drinkable at 7%. Would love to try again and re-rate, as I don’t really remember this sample (1 of 20+). But I’ll go with my notes for now.
