4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 jbrus (4990) - Delft, - DEC 9, 2002
The last time I had this one it was still brewed by it’s original brewer De Biertoren. And I remember it as a more bitter and thin version of Palm. But what a surprise I had! Don’t understand why it didn’t get better ratings than those listed until now. I find it to be very well balanced and complex in aroma and flavor. More people should try this one. Sweet malts, nutty, fruity and hint of chocolat in the aroma. Brown/orange color, large off-white head that’s lasting and good lace. It was a little hazy, but I poured in a bit of the yeast. Very sweet, well hopped, orange, chocolat, hint of prune. As I said, very complex. Long lasting sweet finish with a litter biterness and some alcohol. The only thing that gets annoying is the sweetness. A little less would make this beer near perfect.

0.33 l bottle from BSH, Bp.
Cloudy copper pour with floating sediments and a fizzy, medium sized beige head on its top, which leaves a thin film behind.
Fruity nose and aroma with caramel, yeast and alcohol underpainted by some spicy hops.
It finishes a bit abrupt and liqueur liked with peppery alcohol and citrusses, which leaves a light tart aftertaste behind.
Showed nothing really exciting, but overall o.k.

draft @ Delirium Hoppy Loft \ sampled \ Got this one from an American, beergeek tourist living in Turkey and whose name I cannot recall anymore \ He hated this so much that he tried to exchange this and when he couldn’t he just gave it back and asked for something else, I suggested him Struise Cuvée Delphine by a small Belgian brewery of whom he had never heard of before, I hope that, that one was somewhat better \ He tried to stop me when I wanted to try it but the beer ticker in me has always been stronger than common sense and he pleads didn’t stop me \ It was a slightly hazy orange with a thin white head \ Smells mostly sweet with decent amount of sweet yeast and some malt, I am also getting some caramel, so far from stellar but nowhere near as bad as I feared \ Taste started out with grains mixed in with malts, plenty of caramel before the candy sweetness kicks in which leads into an iron, sweet cornflakes finish as well as some sweet fruits, some definite sugar \ Body is medium and confidently carbonated \ Bottom line this is far from good but for a crappy macro this is good even (it is sold in line with the same intentions as Floris Kriek at the Delirium Hoppy Loft – it is hard to form any other opinion of this one but as a s crappy mainstream beer)
