Ughsmash (3148), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Sep 22, 2008 Thanks to Mark for the bomber! Poured deep brown with a creamy initial cap of beige head. The aroma was all about the blackberry jam topped with darker chocolates and a bit of woody hoppage.. quite enticing. The flavor carried through the blackberry jam all the way through the finish (where it ended with some seeds).. chocolate wasn’t as vibrant or complementary as on the nose, but it was still alright.. well-roasted with some genero-black malts joining up.. finished dry with sticky berry notes and dry, scratchy chocolate. Medium-bodied on the palate with mild bitterness.. touch sharp at the finish.. caught me off guard with the intensity of the blackberries, but I must say I dug it. dwyerpg (2143), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Sep 14, 2008 Smells very strongly of blackberries. Looks good. This is strange. The flavor has a slight bit of roast, quite a bit of fruit. It’s good, but not that good. I couldn’t drink a whole one of these. Enniskillen (1626), Port Angeles, Washington, USA Aug 25, 2008 Black with a tan head. Aroma is chocolate cover blackberries, lightly malty with caramel, dark chocolate- Really rich aroma. Taste is a very rich blackberry covered in chocolate, nice roastiness, and a nice hop content which was unexpected. REALLY interesting beer. patricks110 (193), Alberta, Canada May 3, 2008 My first porter. Smells of blackberrys freshly picked. Bold taste. Black colour almost purple. mabel (1710), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Mar 25, 2008 [1086-20080203] 650mL (w/ jerc). Aroma wafts of tart blackberries dipped in dark chocolate. Dark ruby black body with a medium-lasting foamy light tan head and nice lattice lacing. More chocolate-dipped berries in the flavour mix well with lovely coffee roast notes. Full body. Nice fruit roast balance.
