I tried this beer on September 20, 2010 after purchasing from one of my local LCBO outlets. The beer poured a translucent reddish-black with a thin tan head. The aroma was blackberry, roasted malt and some coffee. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was roasted malt, coffee, some blackberry (certainly not in the same strength as the aroma).

Gerbeer (859) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - SEP 10, 2012
650 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown/red with one finger of head. Aromas of blackberry jam and roasted malts. Similar taste though more than a bit acidic. But overall quite nice.

neuromatt (858) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 1, 2010
650 mL bottle from the LCBO, served in an English pint glass. Pours clear reddish black with a moderate tan head. The head fades slowly to a bare cover, leaving a moderate amount of lace. The aroma is sweet and fruity, with lots of blackberry. There are also notes of cereal, molasses, chocolate, grass and lemon. The flavour begins moderately sweet and becomes more so, with plenty of blackberry notes. It acquires a slight bitter quality towards the finish, which has lots of berries. It is medium-full in body with a milky texture and soft carbonation. Overall, while the blackberries provide an interesting twist, they are a bit too much for my taste. They overwhelm the palate and become a little tiresome towards the bottom of the glass. This is a nice, well-made beer, but it is a little one dimensional. 2010-10-29

650 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours dark, dark brown, near black. Is a well made porter, aroma and taste are or nicely roasted malt, and a bit of blackberry. Definitely not overpowered by berry taste. Quite nice, very sessionable.

Someone’s already said this smells like Blackberry Nutrigrain bars... well, I’ll go one step further and say it looks and tastes like that, too. Alcohol is strong on the palate, at first this factor didn’t seem well balanced, but as I went through the bottle it seemed to work more and more... I’m not against hot alcohol flavours as they can contribute as a flavour in, say, a barley wine. But here they seemed to take away from the beer’s fullness, at least at the beginning. It’s nice to see a brewery taking risks, and I gave a few more points for this. Hey Belgium’s got Kriek and Framboise lambics; why can’t the BC interior have blackberry porters? Exciting times, for sure, and I’m glad to have given this beer my first rating (after having tried hundreds of beers in my life).

Complex nose: flowery, fresh, nicely fruity with a hint of burnt malts and even smoked pepperoni. Black as all hell, even in direct light shows a dark brown with a big beige head that mostly disintegrates, but lingers a bit. Attractive lacing. Starts bitter with burnt, smoky malts and transmogrifies into a bright, slightly candyish fruit beer with some hoppy undertones — the contrast is startling and very well done. A short finish which actually reminds me of Berry Fanta or Sprite Remix (which isn’t a bad thing). Hides the alcohol well in the thick, well-carbonated body. Awesome, underrated, and dare I say misunderstood?

Clear darkest brown with an amber hue, light brown foamy head lingers. Fruity chocolate, smokey malt aroma. Dark berry roasty malt taste, with a touch of chocolate. Low hopped, no bitterness. Average carbonation, medium bodied. Finishes sweet and clean. LF (Lagerboy Friendly)

It’s pretty cool, i mean, it’s done much better than I expected, it’s a porter, it’s easy drinking, it’s complex, nice aroma, nice flavor, good job cannery brewing! The aroma is dominated by blackberry jam, with malty undertones, chocolate being the main one, i smell some things i’m having a hard time pinning down, i’m very tired at the moment. The flavour is good, again dominated by the blackberry, semi sweet chocolate plays a big role, some malt extract cardboard notes, but it actually works for the beer, has a bitter, dry red wine finish, very decent. Alright, so I finished the beer, and i’m re-rating this. I found I got really bored of drinking this stuff rather quickly, and sort of had to fight on to actually finish it. Should not be sold in bombers, regular bottles would be much better

(bottle) clear dark brown colour with small brown head; aromas of sour fruit, flavour of sour fruit; little to none porter character, more like bad sour fruit juice

This was a very nice beer, dark with a moderate head. Nice aroma - a slight buit "fruity"? Taste was indeed lovely, with the blackberry coming through clearly. Delicious.
