Someone’s already said this smells like Blackberry Nutrigrain bars... well, I’ll go one step further and say it looks and tastes like that, too. Alcohol is strong on the palate, at first this factor didn’t seem well balanced, but as I went through the bottle it seemed to work more and more... I’m not against hot alcohol flavours as they can contribute as a flavour in, say, a barley wine. But here they seemed to take away from the beer’s fullness, at least at the beginning. It’s nice to see a brewery taking risks, and I gave a few more points for this. Hey Belgium’s got Kriek and Framboise lambics; why can’t the BC interior have blackberry porters? Exciting times, for sure, and I’m glad to have given this beer my first rating (after having tried hundreds of beers in my life).

Pours a clear dark black with an reddish head to it. Smells of sweet blackberries and chocolate malts. Taste is a well balanced fruitiness with a full bodied Porter that’s bod on flavor. Alcohol seems kind of hot at first but balances well with the fruit and chocolate and cocoa malts.

Boutip (3971) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 7, 2007
Bottle courtesy of CBA: Poured a dark black color porter with a nice foamy head with some good retention. Aroma of sweet berry is somewhat dominating with some light roasted malt notes also noticeable. Taste is a nice balance between semi-sweet berries and some light dry roasted malt notes. Body is a bit light with some better then average carbonation. I have to admit to being pleasantly surprised by that one since I usually don’t like fruit and porter to be mixed together.

Cletus (6177) - Connecticut, USA - OCT 24, 2007
Bomber courtesy of boutip. Pours dark brown with a white ring of bubbles. Smells like blackberry soda, some chocolate. Tastes of roasted malt, hints of blackberries, rich chocolate and coffee and some molasses, Finish yields some peppery bitterness and cocoa. The blackberries compliment the rich malt well.

Pleasant aroma of....wait....you guessed it.... blackberry! Background notes of roasted/burnt coffee malt. Jet black with a thin tan colour lace. Full blackberry flavour with chocolate truffle. Roasted malt bitter finish. Great texture, silky fruit beer. Great to taste blackberry in a stout.

probstblueribbon (2378) - Nepean, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 26, 2007
650 mL bottle from a BC Liquor Store in Vancouver, served cold in a small tumbler. MR26/07.

App.: Clear, deep cola-brown with a creamy, tan head. Aroma: Strong, jammy, juicy blackberries, some coffee and cacao, chocolate and some citrus hops. Nice. Palate: Medium body and fairly aggressive carbonation. Flav.: A nice blend of blackberry jam and coffee-cacao-dark chocolate. Slightly sweet with a fairly bitter, fruity finish.

An interesting brew. Fruit and dark-roasted flavours work well together and the sweet-bitter combination provides nice balance.

blomster (156) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - SEP 23, 2011
From notes, old rating. Dark brown reddish pour, big tan head. Roasted malt and fresh blackberries on the nose. Initially a lot of blackberry flavour, soon complimented by a rosty malt body and dark roast coffee. Long, pleasant finish. The really good berry profile makes this a fresh, easy to drink beer, and it is complex enough to stay interesting. Good one.

Bomber brought back from Alberta. Pours a very dark colour with what I can describe as a purple hue and a tan head that recedes to a ring. Some spots for lacing. Aroma is sweet fruity syrup like smell with a little smokiness as well. Taste is sweet and a little bitter, with a little smokiness on the finish. I’m not big on the fruity beers but this is nice.

Smells like blackberry, some malt - pretty rich aroma. Pours dark brown/black with some head and pretty good lacing. Palate is medium to high. Taste has bitterness which tastes like a mix between roasty malt and blackberry. A bit of sourness as well. Bottle from LCBO.
