3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 MXD (302) - Gatineau/St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 29, 2010
Pours black, good tanhead, resorbs fast, good lace. Aroma is mostly all about blackberries, with hints of leather as well. Not much malt, and no hops. Taste is something else -- blackberry is still here, but less than aroma would suggest. Roasty, slightly bitter, and we can feel the malt! While blackberries have an extract feel -- that it still a really good product. Way better than what I expected (but not so much now considering high reviews).
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 pivo (2540) - GERMANY - APR 14, 2006
Fruity nose, dark brown color, low foamy head. Currant tastes, berry of course, sweet. Then a sharp bitter end like the peel of something. Grassy earthy touch. Medium body. OK.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 OKBeer (1168) - Halifax, Nova Scotia, CANADA - JAN 9, 2008
Sampled at 2007 Brewnosers’ Christmas Gathering. Very dark ruby colour with a mostly diminishing frothy off-white head. Chocolate, coffee, berries, and roasty aroma. Chocolate and blackberry flavours with a lightly fruity and roasty finish. Medium bodied, perhaps a bit lightish and close to watery mouthfeel for my liking.

2008-02-03. Bottle from the BC Liquor Store. Black body with a good size foamy tan head turns out to be very dark ruby tinged brown body. Dry musty very lightly acidic roasty aroma. (6+) Similar flavours, with dry muted roast character, modest fruity undertones, notes of ambiguous berry fruit. Average smooth palate. (3+) Pleasant and quaffable, but fairly mild and restrained overall. 7/4/7/3/14

UPDATED: MAY 30, 2005 Dark-brown colour with a thick off-white head that fades to a nice lace. Blackberry aroma is prominent in the nose, with some other floral notes present. Lightly carbonated with a nice creamy texture. Starts with a bit of the fruit which is then quickly taken over by coffee and toasted barley. Long burnt toast finish with a hint of the blackberry again as that flavour fades. Would have been better with some more chocolate notes and a slightly sweeter brew.

Bottle - 660ml. Pours a black body with brownish glints, moderate carbonation, and a lasting beige foamy head. Well balanced malty/hoppy aroma with blackberry hints. Taste is relatively complex. It carries grainy, roasty, and blackberry notes. It ends with a decent bittersweet/sour finish. Interesting.

650 ml bottle purchased at the LCBO at Rideau and King Edward (Ottawa), on October 1st, 2010. Dark brown, medium tan head. Toasted barley aroma, a lot of blackberrys. Fruity barley taste, slightly tart, slightly malty, dry bitter aftertaste. Very pleasant porter with that touch of blackberry!
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 bitbucket (2112) - Kirkland, Washington, USA - JUL 1, 2006
Bottled. Pours a translucent blackish brown with a persistent and lacy tan head. Huge blackberry nose with a side of mocha. Medium body with light carbonation. The taste is sweet with blackberries with nuts, chocoloate, and a lightly bitter finish. This could be a much better beer if there wasn’t a somewhat metalic quality to the taste.
