3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 wilderthanyou (607) - Guelph, - OCT 3, 2010
It’s pretty cool, i mean, it’s done much better than I expected, it’s a porter, it’s easy drinking, it’s complex, nice aroma, nice flavor, good job cannery brewing! The aroma is dominated by blackberry jam, with malty undertones, chocolate being the main one, i smell some things i’m having a hard time pinning down, i’m very tired at the moment. The flavour is good, again dominated by the blackberry, semi sweet chocolate plays a big role, some malt extract cardboard notes, but it actually works for the beer, has a bitter, dry red wine finish, very decent.
Alright, so I finished the beer, and i’m re-rating this. I found I got really bored of drinking this stuff rather quickly, and sort of had to fight on to actually finish it. Should not be sold in bombers, regular bottles would be much better
3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 WheatKing (172) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 25, 2012
Someone’s already said this smells like Blackberry Nutrigrain bars... well, I’ll go one step further and say it looks and tastes like that, too.
Alcohol is strong on the palate, at first this factor didn’t seem well balanced, but as I went through the bottle it seemed to work more and more... I’m not against hot alcohol flavours as they can contribute as a flavour in, say, a barley wine. But here they seemed to take away from the beer’s fullness, at least at the beginning.
It’s nice to see a brewery taking risks, and I gave a few more points for this. Hey Belgium’s got Kriek and Framboise lambics; why can’t the BC interior have blackberry porters? Exciting times, for sure, and I’m glad to have given this beer my first rating (after having tried hundreds of beers in my life).
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Lagerboy (416) - British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 22, 2012
Clear darkest brown with an amber hue, light brown foamy head lingers. Fruity chocolate, smokey malt aroma. Dark berry roasty malt taste, with a touch of chocolate. Low hopped, no bitterness. Average carbonation, medium bodied. Finishes sweet and clean. LF (Lagerboy Friendly)
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 wintyguy (38) - British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 11, 2012
Definitely my favorite beer of the Victoria BC’s Great Canadian beer festival This past Aug 2011. Pours very nice, and has a great head which clings and hangs around. The aroma has the perception of roasted black malts with a good sweet blueberry. The taste follows the same. Great balance of sweet and bitterness. Just the right amount of blueberry flavor. My fridge sees this bottle as often as possible.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 Ferfie (253) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - FEB 10, 2012
Pours very, very dark garnet, like almost black with a tanny-off-white head. Smell is toasted malt, big fruit sweetness, like a little bit sweet strawberry, but a slight tartness as well. Smells natural and not like a syrupy. Little bit of grape juice, and dark roasted malt. Taste is tons of fruit up fruit, pretty much like blackberry Italian soda, but the roasted malt carries through and brings through some coffee flavours. Little bit grassy as well, some hop bitterness, but its grainy too. The mouth feel is quite thin, but the carbonation is nice and light, not distracting from the flavour. No alcohol whatsoever. Finish is again blackberry Italian soda, and light bitterness.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Marsiblursi (2675) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - FEB 1, 2012
(Bottle) Pours dark brown to black with a pale brown head. The aroma holds boatloads of ripe fresh blackberries. Mild roast and toast from the malt. The flavour is light sweet, light to medium bitter and light acidic. Coffee and asphalt-like roast alongside blackberries. Citric hoppy finish. The mouthfeel is clean and soft with a medium carbonation. The roast and berries plays well together. Near medium bodied.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 stantheman (85) - British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 13, 2012
I love this porter. I was expecting something rather fruity and overly sweet, but the taste is mostly of malts, and it’s not overly sweet. Just enough blackberry to distinguish it from a conventional porter. Well done by the folks at Cannery Brewing.
2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 sulawang (219) - British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 7, 2012
almost purplish-black, small head, minimal lacing, ringed retention, micro and macro CO2, non-visible CO2 streams. Pleasant blackberry aromas on the nose. Smoky, slightly oaked, hints of coffee and trace amounts of blackberry flavour in there. Mids consist of coffee, nuts, and finishes with a medium-bittersweet long lingering finish. In the ingredients it lists "natural blackberry flavour". It certainly doesn’t burst with blackberry flavour so therefore - Doesn’t taste as advertised!! Overall it’s an okay beer with an okay flavour profile. Medium complexity, medium depth, low-medium carry (flavour fades and is watery at the finish). Won’t drink again and can’t recommend.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 hellbilly (3053) - scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA - DEC 5, 2011
bomber from savvy consumed 3/6/11.
dark reddish tinted porter color with a small pale tan head. some drippy spots of foam stick around later.
holy crap! it smells like blackberry pie filling straight from the #10 can... mixed with coffee, creamy ashy roast and charcoal.
the flavor is far less berry dominated (artificial?) ... though there is a bunch of roast, charcoal ash and chocolate. it is very dry and very fruity but nowhere near sweet. the medium body is crisp, ashy and all together easy drinking. 7/3/7/3/15-
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 pushkinwow (866) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 29, 2011
Bomber. Brown with a tan head. Cranberry and blackberry, little tart, malts, light port. little thin, sweet fruit, high carbonation, sweet and cranberry on the finish.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 blomster (129) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - SEP 23, 2011
From notes, old rating. Dark brown reddish pour, big tan head.
Roasted malt and fresh blackberries on the nose. Initially a lot of blackberry flavour, soon complimented by a rosty malt body and dark roast coffee. Long, pleasant finish.
The really good berry profile makes this a fresh, easy to drink beer, and it is complex enough to stay interesting. Good one.
