3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 GregClow (2665) - Toronto, - OCT 17, 2011
Bottle from the LCBO. Dark brown body with a dark tap finger of foam on top. Aroma is oddly celery-like at first, but that quickly changes to big maple and roast malt notes. Flavour follows - maple sugar candy meets slightly charred but still sweet malt, with a moderately dry finish. Body and mouthfeel are a bit light for a stout, but still OK. A touch too sweet for everyday drinking, but still a nice enough beer.

Black as it gets, with a small head. Huge maple aroma. Nice slightly syrupy mouthfeel with a good balance of the roast and maple. Did I mention maple? Because this has a maple finish. It’s much slighter that you’d expect, though, and I think this is key in making this a very fine brew. Any more and this would be cloying. Maple and stout sure go well together... the maple seems to take care of the astringency I often find too harsh in the stout. Are we in the pioneering days of a new substyle?

Sampled at an esbls tasting. Dark with some red and a tan head. Such a nice aroma. Maple leads with bacon and waffles. Like a great breakfast. That maple also leads the flavor. Waffles again. Big sweetness. How can I not like this? The low ABV is a bonus.

Maple awesomeness. Pours a deepdark chocolate color with creamy tan head. Smells and tastes like maple everything. Some vanilla. Roasted malts on the finish to round everything out very nicely. Exceptional balance and flavour. Excellent.
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 pudds (28) - Brandon, Manitoba, CANADA - MAR 9, 2012
Black as night, thick creamy head. Nice lacing remains throughout. Sweet on the nose, no mistaking the maple. Tastes very sweet, leaves a nice creamy mouthfeel. A bit too sweet to drink regularly, but very good.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 gramity (601) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - MAR 7, 2012
Pours blackish with ruby edges and with an average size diminishing creamy tan head. Aroma of light roasted malt with maple syrup -- kind of smells like a plate of pancakes and bacon with maple syrup, which is nice. Flavour of bacon and maple syrup -- quite unique for sure. Average to medium bodied. A pleasant surprise, I quite liked this.

Fantastic overall. A strong body proceeded by a maple finish. Smooth, elegant and dark.

Very dark almost black pour with a light tan clingy head. Malty caramel nose. Very strong taste. Overpowering at first. Thick and rich. Lots of caramel and smoked malts. Don’t really taste the Maple until the aftertaste and then it’s very, very strong. It lingers for a long time. Sweet at first with a slightly tart finish brought back to sweet maple in the aftertaste. I thought it was a bit too much at first but once I knew what to expect I found I rather liked it.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Marsiblursi (2675) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - JAN 31, 2012
(Bottle) Pours near black with a small brown head. The aroma is soft and round with a lot of caramel, chocolate, fudge and maple syrup. Undertones of banana and vanilla. The flavour is light to medium sweet and light to medium bitter with notes of maple, caramel, chocolate, vanilla and subtle hops. Nice balance between the roast and the syrup. The mouthfeel is soft and round with a near medium carbonation. Medium bodied.

Black with a small tan head. Aroma is sweet coffee cake, caramel, chocolate and maple. Light bodied with slight stickiness and smooth finish. Taste is maple and toffee. Pretty good
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Lanchester (143) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 6, 2012
Pours black with ruby highlights, topped with a thin and creamy beige head. Aroma is very inviting; roasted malts and coffee beans, enveloped by a prominent toffee and maple character that initially leads one to think this may be too sweet. Not the case however, distinct maple and coffee notes all the way through in the taste, backed up by a solid roasted barley profile. Finishes with a slight bitterness. Carbonation is on the low side and yields a very smooth and easy-drinking mouth feel. I liked how the maple was represented in this brew, it’s a challenging flavor to work with.
