leftarmover (8), Alberta, Canada does not count Mar 8, 2008 Tan head with little staying power. Bit of burnt chocolate and hazelnut aroma. Nutty sweetness on the palate with a medium body and mouthfeel, no in your face effervescence. Hops are fairly understated and scarcely make an appearance. Unremarkable brown ale, but still wouldn’t refuse a glass if i was in the mood. mabel (1710), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 13, 2008 [999-20071223] 650mL (w/ GregClow, jerc). Aroma has a bit of wheaty grains. Clear, dark red mahogany body with a long-lasting foamy off-white head. Medium body. A little boring but seems like a velvety soft ale. valleyvintner (2), Okanagan Falls, British Columbia, Canada does not count Dec 24, 2007 Living near the brewery, I taste this one often. Draft is noticeably tastier than canned or bottled IMO. At best, head is good, foamy almond. Pleasant vanilla-chocolate aroma. Flavour is dark nutty with note of chocolate - brewer imports Belgian malt - rich creamy body. Hard to balance this much flavor without making a malt liquor. Nice bitter finish. Drinks nicely room temp. or chilled. GregClow (2369), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 24, 2007 Bottle shared with jerc & mabel - their bottle. Ruby-brown with a good sized tan head. Mild aroma of toasty malt, hint of nuts, and a bit of tobacco. Medium body. Thin flavour with faint nutty malt and a subtle earthiness in the finish. Meh. jerc (3268), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 24, 2007 Bottle. Very dark brown body with a small tan head. (3+) Muted aroma of malt, lightly toasty. Similar flavour with light nutty accents, toasty malt and moderate caramel. Average palate. A quaffable but unremarkable take on the style. 6/3/6+/3/12
