COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
For decades the Country Squire was a fine dining restaurant in Naramata. Following its fine example and carrying its name, Squire Scotch Ale is rich in both flavour and tradition. This variety of pale ale is defined by malt flavours that are strong and smoky with a touch of sweetness. The deep caramel colour and gentle hop profile round out this classic style ale.

(650ml bottle) Purchased at the brewery for an insanely cheap $4. Pours a lasting, yellow head atop a highly carbonated red brown body. Nose is very smokey with some peat and jerky. Flavour isn’t overly sweet, some bitter notes with a strong toasted finish. I suspect the smoked beer lovers will love this - and at 6.5%, its rather light on the palate. Very good.

Bottle, shared with my brother-in-law. Pours an amber gold with an average white head. The aroma is-- and I kid you not-- tinned dog food. It’s meaty and metallic, like fucking DOG FOOD! Really hard to put this to my lips after that attention grabber. Flavours are thankfully more beerish, with light caramel malt, a little meaty smoke, and a mildly bitter finish. Not at all what a scotch ale should be in my mind. Just weird really.

650mL bottle, pours vibrant orange. Aroma of caramel malts. Flavour of caramel malt, some sweetness, and some faint bourbon. Not bad.

650ml brown bottle. Pours dark orange, slightly unclear. Head is full and fluffy and airy. Good lacing. A bit of earth and hint of smoke in the aroma, as well as caramel malts. Flavour features caramel sweetness/toffee, subtle smoke and earth. Earthen finish, chewy malt, notes of grass leaving short lasting bitterenss behind. Medium bodied, strong lively carbonation. Decent, but was hoping for just a bit more intensity here.

Nice look, mix of red, brown and orange, none dominant. Nose: Rather quiet, some peanut butter, small fruits, and light earth. Taste: Big fresh apricots!?! ...dry strong malt, thin mouthfeel, late sour-smoke arrival that lingers through the finish. A note of cheese extremley late. I’m not turned off by this but I was expecting better things from this quality brewery.

A - A camp fire aroma, but there is more there A - Orange amber color with thin lasting cream colored head T - Sweet start that is over taken by a smooth smokieness that last past the light bitter finish P - A touch watery, but has a nice soft feel O - Would love one of these with some BBQ rids or Blackend Beef

Bottle enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Attractive rich copper-amber with a listing light foam. Small aroma of sweet caramel malt and hints at smokiness. Interesting smokiness in the flavour intermingled with a caramel malt flavours and some light hopping. A bit of a metallic and vanilla note mixed in gives the impression of an amber ale in the finish. As I continue through the bottle I am wondering if I want more malt or am starting to enjoy the chewy rawness; kind of a nut and yeast taste. There are bars with much worse on tap. Wouldn’t mind a pint with lunch.
