COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This unique dark India Pale Ale is our tribute to the firefighters and emergency workers who helped fight the 2009 Okanagan Valley Fires. An intricate and exciting blending of hops, coupled with a rich malt foundation produces this fine ale with a complex character, dark colour and lingering hop finish. Fierce hop. Gentle Bite.

Nice thin head. Nut brown colour. Piney, woody, nutty, chocolatey aroma - well balanced between these elements. Bright woody hops and nice earthy character with lots of chocolate. Rich and very nicely balanced. Creamy body. Not even all that fresh, but it shows no sign of old age -- this is a really good example of the dark IPA style and should become a regular in their lineup.

UPDATED: MAR 6, 2011 2011-03-05, bottle from Firefly, Vancouver, 7-5-7-4-15=38
Dark brown color, almost black; generous creamy head. The mild aroma, in this year’s version, shows some yeast first, then roasted malts and hops, light soap too. The mouthfeel is quite smooth; strong flavor of roasted malts, and strong hopping, quite aromatic but overwhelmed. Strong nutty/roasted final.
A beer with character, very good, but not as impressive as last year.

Dark brown to black color; beautiful head, medium-sized, yoghurt-like. Delicate but very pleasant hop aroma, British style, manure; then, light cheese, smoke chocolate and wood. Good mouthfeel initially, with rich dark chocolate flavor, followed by roasted malt and finally excellent hops; strong bitterness, in the end some of it comes from the black malt. The final is a bit too sharp, dry and bit shorter than expected (and this can be the only less-than-impressive note on this wonderful beer).
The roasted malt character in this beer is not excessive, while the hopping is excellent. One of the best BC beers that I tried in these days.

Darker then I expected with a deep red glow. Fairly sizeable head. Nose: A waft of smoke appears then give way to fire-roasted bell peppers & hops, some zucchini, toasted caramel, walnuts & peanut butter. Complex but not strong, great mix! Taste: Immediate charred hops and burnt forest ash, tangy cereals, late charge of bitter wood that goes loooong. Complex but not quite as in sync as the Aroma. Heavy but not thick mouth feel. Very quality product.

Bottle - Bomber. Pours a very dark amber with a frothy tan head. Aroma of pine. Tastes nutty / malty, strong bodies, and is very hoppy. Grassy finish. A very worthwhile IPA...

Dark amber brown, thick off-white head. Aroma of toast, caramel, roasty malt, a little hint of buttered popcorn, grassy hops. Tastes a little smokey, metallic, smoke, notes of nuts and charred, buttered toast, finishes moderately bitter with resin and grassy hops. A little flawed, between the metallic and diacetyl notes I was getting, but they were not dominate at all. Without those flaws, this would be amongst the best black IPAs I’ve had.

22oz bomber from Brewery Creek. Nose on opening is a real mixture of hops and almost smoky malts. Pours a cola brown with thick bubbled head that diminishes to a thin top. Lots of earthy malts here in the first taste married with a hop tang that lasts as the malts fade. I got a little chocolate in the finish along with a roasty malt taste backed by a subtle hop bite. This is a good beer. Not sure if I like it more or less than the Black Toque from Phillips...but it’s a worthy competitor.

my first dark IPA. Nice long hoppy finish, malty base, nice aroma. Pity it’s a limited release.

(650ml bottle) Purchased from the brewery on June 10, 2010. As soon as I took a whiff of this beer I thought of Tree Hophead. Powerful malt base with some cutting hop bitterness, some smokey peatiness through the finish. Good beer. Should be available year-round.
