Bottle. Pours a ruby-mahogany body with a white ring of head. The aroma is bready with sweet malts and light cocoa. The flavour is watery with a midly toasty palate and notes of almond.

On draught at the brewpub in downtown Victoria, BC. Pours a dark reddish copper brew with a creamy beige head that has some nice retention and good lacing. Aroma of crystal crisp malt, some roasted nuts, a touch of coffee and tobacco. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonated with flavors of roasted dark malt, citrus zest, pipe tobacco, and a touch of coffee. Finish is semi-sweet at first and then a mild dry aftertaste. Overall this is one of the better beers I sampled at the brewpub as it has a nice balance of bitterness and malt flavors.

[1075-20080201] 650mL (c/o GregClow, w/ him, blankboy, jerc, mds). Earthy dirt-covered old poo malt aroma with a stale sweet background. Clear, dark wine red body with a medium-lasting creamy off-white head. Flavour has coffee roasted grain malt characteristics with a solid earthy base. Medium body is a little thin. Interesting.

Bottle (650ml) shared with jerc, mabel, GregClow & mds -- courtesy of GregClow. Pours a deep ruby-brown with an average size diminishing tan head. Aroma’s pretty roasty with some coffee and a hint of smoke. Slightly watery flavour of lightly roasted malt along with notes of coffee and nuts. Average bodied. A decent Brown Ale.

2008-02-01. Bottle. Dark brown body with a small beige head. Roasty malt aroma, toasty notes and a very slight note of oxidation. Similar flavours but a touch more muted, roasty malt is dominant character. Averate to thin palate. Decent, touch thin at times. Roast does not do it for me personally but it is an interesting brown ale.
