4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 hopscotch (7526) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - FEB 19, 2008
UPDATED: FEB 20, 2008 Bottle… VBWT2008… This beer rocks!… Hazy, light yellow ale with a small, fizzy, white head that’s gone in a blink. Acidic nose with notes of damp straw, wet leather, apple cider vinegar and that lovely, patented, Cantillon barnyard funk. Medium to full-bodied with mild carbonation. Mellowed by the cognac barrel, the acidity is restrained. Very nice bitterness; not flashy, just nice. Finishes tart, tangy and lightly bitter. Kudos to ygtbsm94 for providing the bottle!

courtesy of Tony Flükiger - pours a hazy golden-blond colour without foam; aroma of cellar and apples, cider-like, notes of cinnamon; light to medium malt body; fair acidity (but quite modest by Cantillon standards), refreshing, quite dry and long fruity (apples) and acidic finish - very good
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 MesandSim (7109) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 7, 2008
A Mes rate: Bottle at London Drinker, Cantillon and in Glasgow with Tom. Cloudy golden brown with lots of lace and a tenacious white head. Awesome Cantillon sourness in the aroma with some unusual smoky notes and a bit of lemon. Only slight congnac but there are some utterly superb barelly bits showing. Flavour follows on in a similar vein. The cognac comes through a little more, especially in the finish. Such a glorious balance of tarty lemon sourness and incredible god damn adorable cognac barrel notes. Outstanding stuff. Perfect mouthfeel, just perfect. LOVE IT.

Bottle, at the London gathering, November 2005. For the very reason that Silk found this beer far more palatable than most lambics, I found this less appealing. A Cantillon wouldn’t be a Cantillon without lots of lemony tartness, but its much more mellow than the norm. I never thought I’d use a word like smooth in relation to a Cantillon but I’m almost tempted to here. It also had less funky farmyard goings on than its brothers. And, as usual when a beer is advertised has having something added, I didn’t really pick up the brandy. Its still a good beer in my book but its not the wild child that other Cantillons are.

750ml bottle shared courtesy of egadjzis. Poured a deeper and hazy golden color with a smalle sized head. Aromas of wood, some funkiness, floral, grapes, and some cognac in the background. Tastes of vanilla, wood, funky, floral, citrus, the same trace of cognac, and grapes. Nice sour and tart finish.

Bottle shared by beastiefan2k... I know I’m going to regret all this acid tomorrow. Deep golden-straw colour. Aroma is quite soft and muted. Barnyardy funk with the classic Cantillon character. The flavour is shockingly subtle with a soft grapey sweetness and a soft earthiness that I wasn’t expecting. Light vanilla and faint oak flavour along with the dusty/funky flavour. Soft acidity that is completely unlike any Cantillon I’ve ever had... it’s sort of a bastard stepchild of a marriage of Cantillon with 3 Fonteinen.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 CaptainCougar (6834) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - JUN 14, 2009
Bottle sampled on 6/3/08: Pours a slightly hazy golden bronze with a thin ring of wispy-lacing white head. Semi-tart earthy dry leathery nose has some light fruity notes and oak complexity. Body starts fairly full and semi-viscous with a nice lightly sweet biscuity malty presence and good oaky tart balance. Fairly smooth and less tart than some other Cantillons, which is a good thing.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 JorisPPattyn (6727) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - MAR 3, 2008
Small but persistent (lambicwise) off-white head over yellow-orangey beer. Little alcohol nose, though I do not get outright cognac. Wood, gooseberry. Hard lambic, wood, wet oak woot, but dry finish. Sharp taste, but where some complain about chlorine, I do not get that at all. Sharpish, not unappropriate. In the aftertaste even some restsugars. A special gueuze, if the characteristics the brewery might have been searching are not that clear to me.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 maeib (6632) - Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, ENGLAND - NOV 14, 2005
Bottled at the Chris_O Beer, Cheese and Curry powwow. A coppery gold coloured beer with lots of little bubbles but no head. The aroma is tarty and dry but not as welcoming as most lambics. The taste is tart and puckering, dry and lemony but there is no oomph to it. No cognac flavours and no outstanding sourness. Good but a little dull. Massive thanks to Kook for sharing what is the most expensive beer I’ve ever drunk.
