4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 jehoey (765) - Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 26, 2008
Bottle sampled at Cantillon: My friend and I were graciously given a sample of this beer because we happened to be the last person there and after talking to the sales lady I think she thought us worthy lambic drinkers. Aroma is amazing… typical Cantillon aroma must, lemon, and brett, but with a rich aroma of Cognac. The beer poured hazy dark gold with a white head the built nicely and slowly diminished. Flavor is incredible rich Cognac married with refined lambic. Nice woody flavors as well. Truly great.

Bottle thanks to Andrew via trade for the same beer which I originally got in Belgium. Tasted during the First Annual Chicago Sour Tasting. Hazy golden amber with small, creamy white head. Aroma is stinky, funky, lots of barnyard and some sour. Flavor is wood, funk, slight barrel, grapey really well balanced. Medium to light body with slightly active carbonation. Fantastic, well balanced, one of the most straight forward geuzes so far.

From bottle, 75 cl. (bought @ festival Vilvordia)
Hazy deep golden orange color, with little head. Aroma bit woods (oak), sourness. Medium body.
Taste is great. Perfect balance between the sour, woody and fruity lambic. Complex and delicious. Very good.

Generous bonus bottle from miketd. He’s seems to be the importer for all the US ratings. Thanks Mike! Opened at Lost Abbey 2nd Anniversary with many friends. Pours cloudy yellow amber color. I would almost say it’s my favorite gueuze from Cantillion. They are awesome. Many comment they can taste the cognac, but I can’t. At least not in this enviromnent. Easy to drink. Mild sourness. Complex and very well balanced. I did a side-by-side of this and Isabelle Proximus, and I like the Isabelle a tad more, but I give them the same rating. Excellent!

hazy nectarin pour with minimal white head. Beautiful tartness on the nose, white grapes, wood. Nice tartness up front, wonderful tanic woodiness, the cognaic is dying down a little bit. Leaves a great woody tanic taste on the finish.

UPDATED: MAR 15, 2008 Cask @ London drinkers Fest 2008. Shared with Mes and Carlus12. Nose of lambic; wild fermentation, malty, vinegar. Pours a clear amber coloured beer. Creamy, carbonated, soft, vinegar and yeast, fruity with a mild finish, Cognac come through the nose once the beer warms up somewhat and the pallette too although subtle. Brilliantly balanced.

Pours hazy gold with a thin white head. Doesn’t look too exciting but soon grabbed me by the knackers at the first sip. It’s bloody beautiful. Sour lemons with hints of the wood and cognac. So easy to drink but such a complex masterpiece of well balanced sourness. Tasty as hell. Loved it.

Bottle shared by the Bastardos at Muckfest II on 6/25/11. Clear, yet chunky gold/amber pour with a thin white head. Sour fruit and peppery yeast on the nose with a bit of oaky sweetness. Super sour flavor with some peppery character and a sour lemon juice finish.

UPDATED: OCT 27, 2011 Update, bottle shared @ DRBM 2011
Orange golden colour, very little head. Quite mild sour aroma, fruity, apricot, wood, cognac. Flavour is delicate, tart, fruity, some apples with some rounded cognac. Finish is tart.
Original, old rating
Great lambic.. Only real downside of this bottle was that it tasted slightly less good than a glass of lambic served straight from a cognac cask I happened to be permitted to taste at the cantillon brewery. I presume that barrel must be somewhere in the 50N-4E, but as a single cask brew it was even better.
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 ricke (476) - Malme, SWEDEN - JAN 11, 2010
Straw-like yellowish orange color, rather hazy. A 2 cm white head with decent retention. Some lacings.
Orange-like fruitiness with hints of grapes in the nose. Some vinegar and tart apples. Plenty of funky notes - horse blanket, barn and wet hay. Some interesting notes of phenolic alcohol tickles the nose, might this be the cognac barrels revealing their presence? All in all, a very nice smell.
It’s very easy to drink, considering that this is a beer from Cantillon. Tart citric notes and a nice wheat character up front in the mouth. Earth, yeast and grass are present, but rather restrained. Plenty of funky notes - horse blanket, wet dog and a hint of aged cheese. Some vinegar and some tart notes. In the mouth, there is really nothing extraordinary about this beer, but upon swallowing it truly excels. A wonderful mix of cognac and green apples appear, and it is really a fantastic taste. The taste of cognac is subtle but distinct, slightly phenolic with notes of oak barrel, raisins and butterscotch. Slightly boozy for just a hint of a second, and this is actually a pleasant experience during these circumstances. Then comes the apples with their wonderfully tart character. The finish is really long.
Medium carbonation, medium body with a smooth texture. Semi-dry finish.
I really like this one. A fantastic lambic with a rather unique character due to the cognac flavor. The cognac delivers a very sophisticated edge to the beer. Among the best beer I’ve had from this fantastic brewery.
