Commercial Description:
A new brew concocted by Jean Van Roy to celebrate the 2003-2004 Division III title for the local Union St. Gilles football team and its upgrade to Division II.

Cuvee des Champions is not a traditional 'gueuze,' in that it is made from only two year-old 2001 lambic, not from a blend of older and younger lambics. It is also dry-hopped in the cask for three weeks with fresh Styrian Goldings hops. Re-fermentation in the bottle is achieved with the addition of a small amount of candi sugar.

Bottle 75cl. @ home. [ As Cantillon Cuvée du 89 ]. [ Vintage Bottled 2004 ].
[ As my rating # 12345 on ratebeer ]. Clear sparkling medium orange color with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is grape, leather, wood, wood pencel, fruity notes, light barnyard. Flavor is moderate sweet and acidic with a long duration, and a dry finish. Body is medium to light, texture is watery to oily and dry, carbonation is soft. Not as sour - tart as some other geuze, but very easy to drink with a big smile. ;O)) [20090512]

A: Pours a light golden yellow hue with a small white head. S: Nice bold funkiness. Lemon and wet grass stand out. Dank basement and cheese. T: Tart apples and lemon up front. Wet hay and wonderful funk. Crushed sweet tarts and a nice blast of acidity. M: On the light side of medium, nice tartness (not overly) with a grassy hop bitterness. D: Darn good, man Cantillon does no wrong.

Draught @ Brouwer’s Café during Big Wood 2008:   Straw colored, a little bright even being hazy, moderate frothy white head, decent lacing, lively carbonation.   Sweaty nose, sock and underarm.   Funky!   Also barnish and floral.   Somewhat of a straight up tartness on the tongue but without many other flavors.   Dry, and very simple.   Perhaps a little bright floral aspects.   Not as big as I was thinking it would be.   Flattens out on the backside.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Needs more umph at the finish.

Thanks Flacoalto. 2004 vintage. Lemon juice, hay and smiles. Hazy mustard. Stinging in my jaw tart. Bracing. Eyes roll back. Reminds me of my first Iris. Maybe some strawberry essence in there. Glorious.

2006 vintage thanks to Eric, drank at the December 11th beer party. Pours a clear fizzy amber with a medium white head. The aroma is fruity and tart, lots of yeast. The flavor is great; super tart, fruity, but hard to pin down exactly what. A funky sort of straw. Very tart and nice.

750 ml 2005 bottle. Pours a deep orange caramel with a frosty off white head. Aroma of sour oak, funk, citrus and grapes. Taste of sourness, oak wood, funk, citrus and grapes. One of the better sour beers Ive had.

750ml bottle, brewed Jan2007, bottled 19May2009. Pours a slightly hazy light golden yellow with a moderate bright white head. Aroma is lovely barnyard, musty, dusty, fresh citrus and lemon, fresh cut and peel, and oak. Flavor is lots of fruit, peel, a good amount of sour and tart, oak, funk and general yum. Wow, this works really well for me and found this to be unique and very, very tasty. Great stuff!

An early Christmas preasent from oakbluff (thanks buddy!). Bottled sample, 2009 vintage. Pale golden in colour with strong and spritzy carbonation. Aromas are of lemon, oak barrel, sour apple skin, a bit of fresh grass, and very mild funk. Flavors are of grapefruit, lemon, old wood, a bit of cheese curd, and a bit of herbal hop. Refreshing and clean finishing. A classic and elegant gueuze to say the least.
