M0RHI (1067), Luxembourg, Luxembourg Aug 30, 2007 Bottle, RBESG Grand Tasting 07. Hazy golden, thin white head. Grapefruity citrus gueuze. Mouth is quite sharp citrus with some straw, sourness then kicks in. Finishes quite smooth, but with that grating hop on the way down, just to cheer you up. Bottle at RBESG purchased from the fabulous Ølbutikken. Maybe not quite so complex and deep as most of Jeans gueuzes but I would guess this is down to the choice of blend. That said it is still a stunning beer with all the barnyard funk and sourness you would expect from this awesome blender. Slight initial sweetness is totally unexpected but it is instantly washed away by the usual lemon and other citric fruit acidity and finishes with a wonderful gush of hops. Dry hopping lambics really works for me and this is certainly the best example I have had. Cantillon I love you. Proteus (98), Finland Aug 28, 2007 Clear yellow, hazier with the yeast in it. Fading head. Dry fruity aroma. Quite tart flavor with a nice bitter finish, the hops are really good here. Doesn’t have that much aftertaste though. A normal gueuze, nothing special. Bov (5403), Bienne, Switzerland Aug 27, 2007 courtesy of Papsoe; 2003-2004 - hazy golden colour with a firm white head; solid aroma of hay, cheese and vinegar; medium-bodied with some initial sweetness and a solid acidity (though pretty modest by Cantillon standards); the finish is a bit dusty and yeasty with notes of old apples and cellar along with a lingering acidity - a beautiful beer and probably the most approachable of the Cantillon JB175 (1654), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 14, 2007 Golden-orange color with a small white head. Aroma is thick and sour - very funky and acidic with some citrusy lemon, must, and sweet scents. Taste is a pleasant sour citrus with some apple, raspberry, yeast, bread, wood. and assorted funky, but tasty flavors. Very nice - wow. voota (761), Melbourne, Australia Jul 30, 2007 Cloudy golden with a thin white head. Dry, acidic hoppy aroma, very pleasant. Light body, touch of bitterness doesnt clash too much with the sharpness of the acidity. Dry hops run through the flavour, very citrussy and quite sour. Apple skin tannin in the finish, pretty tart too. Challenging and enjoyable. pilsnerrogge (1770), Finspång, Sweden Jul 20, 2007 bottle Dark golden with a slight haze. Fluffy head. Sourish citrus zest aroma. Flavour is sourish/bitter citrus zest with a touch of iron.
