3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 ggaughan (99) - Philadelphia, - OCT 12, 2009
Had on draft at Moeder Lambic in Brussels, a night before heading to the Cantillon brewery for another sample of it. The beer was poured from a little plastic jug that looked like a wooden barrel.
The beer poured a light golden color with just a few bubbles around the edge, no carbonation but that is to be expected with how the beer was served and the style. The aroma was sweet, not really candy sweet but borderline. Not as sweet as other Faros in Belgium. The taste was sweet up front but there was some of the trademark Cantillon tartness that balanced this beer out very well. Although not my favorite lambic style but I find it very interesting and everytime I can find one, I go after it.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Benjii (2396) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - MAY 28, 2012
On draught at Chez Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Pours a dark golden - amber colour with a thick white head. Aroma of musty yeast, horse blanket, candy sugar, caramel and alcohol. Similar sweet and sour flavours with moderate carbonation and a foamy mouth-feel. Nice and a little sweet to finish (7,5,6,3,16). Also had this from a ceramic jug at Cantillon. Poured a dark golden - amber colour with a lacy white head. Aroma is a little sweet with light candy sugar, lemon and horse blanket notes. Similar flavours and mildly tart with very low carbonation and an oily mouth-feel. Not too sweet. Nice (7,5,7,3,16). I preferred this version but only slightly.

On tap at Moeder Lambic, Brussels. Looks amber, zero head, but tastes like white wine. Sour, bitter, a little funk. Enjoyed but probably wouldn't seek it out.

Söt, fläderaktig doft. Helt utan kolsyra och mycket söt med en ganska diskret syrlig underton.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 gyllenbock (1918) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAR 17, 2012
From a plastic growler at the brewery in March 2012.
Clear reddish/brownish with no head. The aroma was sweet with toffee, brown sugar, earth and some lemon. The taste was also sweet and rather strange to begin with. (I am not that used to drink a Faro) Then it became better. Toffee, sugar, some earth, funk and light berries. No carbonation. Very easy to drink. It was an interesting beer to try. (only 2 EUR for a glass)
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 dreadnord (319) - Castel Volturno, ITALY - MAR 14, 2012
Cask at Moeder Lambic. Pours deep amber with no head at all. Flat as can be. Smells like pear juice. Flavor is sweet with just a hint of sour. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. After a talk with the brewers at Cantillon about this beer, I realize that it is a bit of a gimic. Not really impressed and won’t be searching for any more Faro again.

cask @ moeder lambic. Sweet sugar with funk on the nose. Pours amber with a thin white head. Sweet upfront with acidity sneaking in right away with sweet lemon in the finish with traces of brown sugar.

Cask at Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Brown orange hazy amber colour with massive beige bubbly head. Aroma is sugar sweetness with a bit of funk. Quite grainy and some wood. Taste is sweet and vinous, maybe even a touch of creaminess at times. Bit appley too and just a hint of citrus sourness.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 armando629 (1995) - Budapest, HUNGARY - JAN 13, 2012
Casks at Moelder Lambic Fontainas.
Cloudy amber appearance with a froathy white head that stays on the surface till the end... Nice aroma of a real Cantillon brewed Lambic, light grapes and vinous tartness, green leaves and dried peach. Easy character of a Lambic with the added sugars. Sourish tarty taste, light barnyard balanced with a fine sweetness, green leaves. Interesting. Exciting!
