Apricot lambic

UPDATED: DEC 16, 2011 re-rate. First time i had this was over 4 years ago, and it was not a fresh bottle. this on was bottled agust 25th 2011. Boy oh boy, this is pretty close to perfect. the light subtle peachy apricot aroma is just intoxicating. There are some great funk barnyard aromas, some great sourness. some wet hay, and quite a bit of acidity. the fruit seems to tame the tartness though. The acidity, and apricot just blend together as one, and are just unbelievable. I cant get my nose out of the glass! the finish is light, bright, refreshing. medium sour, bright tropical fruit. lingering sourness. good god, this is amazing stuff!

UPDATED: MAR 7, 2013 Bottle. Ap: Light orange/dark yellow, Hazy! Ar: Champagnesque. Has a aged fruity character. Banana, vanilla. Not as sour as many other lambics. Fla: Fruity! Sour in a sweet fruity way. Tiny bitterness in the end. Re-rate on draught @ Akkurat. Rally crisp and fresh mix of fruit and some cheesy funk!

Have had 2 of these. First was a 2001 bottle, second was a 2009 bottle. The 2001 was still amazingly sour. 2009 had much more apricot and a lot less sour. Both would be categorized as a couple of the best beers I have ever had, but the 2001 was worth it.

Big thanks to Ryan for pulling this out of his cellar to share. What a treat this was. A perfect score for me. What else can I say. The aroma, the flavor, the appearance was just stellar. Everything screamed apricot and tart flavors. Would love to try this one again. I can’t remember what vintage though, possibly 2007.

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2012 (750ml bottle). We had an ’05 and ’08. I ended up rating the ’08 because it had more of the apricot and was considerable more sour than the ’05. Pours a hazy light golden color with a slight white head. Aroma is dried apricot, vinegar, funk and wood. Taste is super sour and a nice, gentle apricot flavor. Medium bodied with a dry, woody finish. This was a great beer and one of the stars for me on a day that many big, big beers made an appearance.

This beer gets all max scores from me. The best I have ever had. Big thanks to Shades of Gray for opening this up at our Darkness Day tasting Smell is super pungent of funk and apricots. I believe this was an 07 vintage so the apricots were not as up front as they would be fresh but I could still detect them. The taste is un parallel WOW the most sour and balanced beer I have ever had. I would love to get another bottle or 50 of these and just sit on them. The best and well balanced sour I have ever had.

Draft at Redlight. Hazy deep gold pour with a small white head. Aroma has tons of apricot fruitiness, yeasty funkiness, lemons, sour dough, and more citrus. Huge apricot on the front fading into tart lemon peels and citrus, layered barrel and yeasty funk with a tart finish with more apricot. Extremely complex and fantastic beer. Refined carbonation and medium bodied. I would drink this daily if I could.

In assoluto una delle birre più buone del mondo. Il fruttato rilevante e accattivante delle albicocche è accompagnato dal sentore acido netto che ci si aspetta da un maestro come cantillon. Ogni volta che mi trovo davanti a un bicchiere di Fou Foune comprendo la ragion d’essere di qualcosa come le birre artiginali. Le birre artigianali esitono affiché possa esitere un miracolo come la Fou Foune di Cantillon.

UPDATED: OCT 10, 2013 cask@Chez Moeder Lambic – über-fresh 2011 version, made only a couple of days ago: murky yellow, light orange with a super firm lambic-head which sticks around even after you have drank all of the beer, smell is fantastic, pure apricots, not tart or sour but just pure apricot, taste is incredibly dry, jam-packed full of yeast, almost flour-like, initial taste is tart, minor barnyard & hint of lemon, soaked into the mouth filling thick tart/wild yeast/flour-taste & body, aftertaste is a sudden and unexpected resurgence of fresh apricots, no real sourness has even developed yet here, liking drinking straight from the cask at the brewery which is more or less what this is, curious as to how something as this would develop because this young, it is still completely off the beaten path ///// had a 2012 bottle of this one and on draft - this years is so good even if people say the previous one was better - it is like pure apricot compote - like the liquid in canned apricots - some sourness lemony in the draft version I must say /// upped score from 4.5 to 4.9 - so damn good right now this stuff - drank a bottle and wanted a second one directly 2013 /// 1 month old. Still getting that feel of Pure Apricot 2013 in this, already very heavily lactic, this has the complexity that 2012 had @ 1+ yr. old already now. This may be less astonishing than 2012 was fresh but is going to age into something incredible whilst the 2012 was top fresh.
