4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Belgo (154) - Køge, DENMARK - MAR 2, 2006
750 ml bottle. Pours orange with a - for a lambic -quite fine head that lasts a while. The aromas are classic Cantillon; limey, sweaty and moldy. A hint of tobacco there also. And then there is the apricot aroma, which enhances the citric component even more. On the palate it is absurdly acidic, but still fruity. Complex, with a mouthfeel like a mixture between freshly squeezed lemon, grape fruit and orange juice. Not my favourite Cantillon, but still a super beer!
5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 alpar (151) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - FEB 14, 2012
This beer gets all max scores from me. The best I have ever had. Big thanks to Shades of Gray for opening this up at our Darkness Day tasting
Smell is super pungent of funk and apricots. I believe this was an 07 vintage so the apricots were not as up front as they would be fresh but I could still detect them. The taste is un parallel WOW the most sour and balanced beer I have ever had. I would love to get another bottle or 50 of these and just sit on them. The best and well balanced sour I have ever had.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 paytoplay (146) - , California, USA - JUL 1, 2009
Very impressed with this brew. Sourness is intense. Had on Draft at Toro SD 1st anny. Have 1 bottle I’ll give at least 2 years to funk up even more. Apricot flavors come after the sourness eats away at your enamel. Enjoyed cold and when it warmed up. Cantillon is in a leage of their own when it comes to sours. This could easily become a 5.0 beer given time.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Uriel (146) - San Jose, California, USA - MAR 28, 2006
Sweet apricot with tart notes. Cloudy and nectar-like. This reminded me of a bellini. Light straw color. Very tart and grapefruity.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Ygberg (139) - SWEDEN - FEB 18, 2010
Appearance is orange. Aroma of tart and funk with hints of peaches. Taste is sour with sweetness from the apricots that compensates quite well. The fruit doesn’t really come threw as expected but still an amazing beer.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Dougal (130) - Escondido, California, USA - MAR 10, 2003
Everytime I try it I ask myself why I go back for more? This has got to be the most cour thing I've ever tried from Cantillon. Small indication of Apricot on the nose but the citric acids meet with the lambic tartness to create an overpowering sourness that gives me pucker face every time. I like it and I don't really understand why!
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 JagerQueen (123) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - FEB 22, 2004
Pours a golden orange color, slightly murky-very pretty. Aroma is sharp and sour, very yeasty, almost no apricots detected. The initial flavor is sharp and tart, still no apricots detected...at first, but as it begins to warm a definite sweet, fruity flavor of the apricots emerges. A hint of vanilla makes the mouth feel warm, very nice.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Lukaduke (120) - Portland, Maine, USA - MAY 7, 2012
Poured on draft @ Novare Res and orange yellow color with a gaseous head that dissipated very quickly. Aromas of sour fruit; peaches, apricot and a hint of wet hay funkiness. On the palate it punches right off with rich fruit flavors of apricot, peach and then rides the high carbonation bubbly flavors into a dry lingering sour finish. Amazingly refreshing and complex !
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 rallison (116) - USA - JUL 22, 2008
Thanks Joey for bringing this 2002 bottle to Carlos’ place for the tasting!
Aroma is funky, citrusy and nice sour peach/apricot - none of that artificial fruit you get from some of lesser lambics (and I’m not even talking about the horribly sweet Lindeman’s versions). Love that funk.
The taste is quite tart and relatively clean. Yummy funk and sour apricots. Soft wheat-like character upon warming.
Sourness is not quite as sharp as on fresher bottles, but you could argue this is a good thing. My preference - nice and sharp. Age treats it very well though, so you won’t go wrong aging a bottle.
Still, one of my favorite Cantillon beers. How I need to get some more bottles!
