Sour and earthy aroma with grapefruit. Flavour is rather sour with malty notes typical to Iris. Also floral notes, grapefruit and distant woody tones. Flat palate, no CO2 at all. I like the sourness here. Perhaps a bit more woody and less malty, but no big differences with the basic version.

Have had the regular Iris several times before in both bottles and on draft. Now managing to get the very last bit of a keg (a half tulip) of the Grand Cru at a sour event at Khyber Pass in Philly. Poured a hazy orange copper with no head. Tons of aged oak flavor. Still some nicy juiciness underneath. Quite sour and quite dry. Wonderfully complex!

Draught@Tuulensuu, Tampere. Deep golden colour, no head. Aroma is sour wood, some quite sweet notes along with some meertse like notes as well. Flavour is tart wood, some slight sweetness along with mild wood as well as some mild resiny and sweet notes. Balanced, and somewhat different from the typical Cantillons.

On tap for Zwanze Day. Pour is dark copper amber with thin bubbly white ring. Nose has a strong oak presence, dusty and a hint of vanilla. Light cellar musk but faint. I hint of apricot in the back. Taste is heavily sour, virtually no carbonation on a tight creamy body. Lots of vanilla and oak, some notes of toffee and and caramel. Interesting beer, heavily sour with an interesting malt complexity. Faint earthy lambic notes but not much. More dusty wood and sour notes with an unusual malt presence that is enjoyable.

@ Quintessence. Even maltier and woodier than the first time I had it and compared to the regular Iris there is a lot going on. A great lambic with deep flavors of citrus, barnyard and malts.

Sampled on Zwanze Day 2013 at Alewife Queens, as well as at Denver Ghost Tasting (thanks to Sean!).. Massive oak bomb with an almost flat hop presence. Little lacing with a steady, if underdeveloped head, thin legs. Heavy funk, very minimal acidity. Sweet and malty, slight sourness with a mellow bitterness. A neat example of what can be done with extended oak aging, however not my favorite expression of Iris.

Draft @ Moeder over the weekend. Amber / gold, sticky head fades slowly. Nose is wild, raw, grape vines, peach skins clementine zest. Very dry taste, spice lemon tart not sour with a malty backbone. really interesting.

On tap @ Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Slightly hazy golden/orange with no head and no lacing. Aroma is of oak, funk, citric/lemony notes and caramel. Taste is also lemony with mild funk, mineral notes and caramel. Medium body. Flat carbonation. Dry finish. Like JulienHuxley said, this one is very similar to their unblended lambic (not the Bruoscella, the regular one). It’s difficult to recognize regular Iris here. Quenching.

On tap at Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Almost clear gold pour with a few bubbles of white head. Aroma of typical Cantillon funk, bretty, oaky notes, quite citric, a bit dusty. Taste is tart, lemony, Cantillon wet grain funkiness, very light caramel notes. This beer has nothing of what makes Iris Iris, stripped back down to old Cantillon lambic. It is however quite different from Grand Cru Bruoscella, and is quite quaffable. The age is more apparent in the aroma as well.

Tap @ Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Dark orange/amber colour, almost no carbonation. Complex sour aroma of sour apples, barnyard and citrus. Dry and light bitter finish. Funky and tart. Very good and drinkable.

Cask at Moeder. Pours orange brown with a off white cask froth. Aroma is oak, dark cherry, wet blanket, spice. Taste follows nose, sour cherry, oak and a touch of spice. Dry, cherry skin finish.
