4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Blake (396) - Orange, USA - MAR 9, 2003
UPDATED: MAR 28, 2010 Re-Rate - Had from bottle at Belgian Beer Party at Pizza Port Carlsbad on March 27, 2010 - 2006 Vintage #51 on the program, this was the 2006 vintage of Cantillon Iris. This was my first bottle of the day, and as such, one of the first ones opened. It was still cold, and uncorked for my tasting. It pours a brown/amber color with a spare, fizzy head and good lacing. The Iris is clear throughout with no particles. The nose is both sweet and sour. Aromas of flowers, hops, yeast, and fruits. A very complex, yet satisfying nose. Flavors are similarly complex, tasting slightly bitter with citrus dominating the flavors and an acidic finish. The Iris is very drinkable and finishes well. A fine start to my morning/afternoon festivities.
Original Rating: Had from bottle at The 12 Hour Belgian Beer Party at Pizza Port Carlsbad on March 8, 2003 #47 on the program. After sampling the Cantillon Rose de Gambrinus just a few beers prior, I had hoped for something a bit sweeter than what I got. Luckily I got some of the last bottle...but my taste buds were not ready. The beer hits you hard with a strong vinegar/acetic taste. The aroma is similar - a bit sour with a hint of alcohol. A very complex beer with a chalky finish and a soft carbonation. Not my favorite of the Cantillon family (I would have to recommend the FouFoune)...

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 gramity (508) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 25, 2012
RBAG 2012. Delicious lambic! Pours a hazy orange with a small to average size white head. Nice funky aroma. Flavour’s quite nice: funky with some lemon, yeast and a mild bitter finish -- yet it’s a simple version of the style making it really easy to drink but not as complex as most of the other Cantillons. I could drink a lot of this though.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Ferfie (170) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 24, 2012
RBAG 2012. 2009 Bottling. Pours a really nice deep golden straw colour, nice bright white fluffy head. Aroma is much more substantial than I was expecting. There’s some vinegar, some lemon zest, crab apple, tart light fruit, but the funk out of this is what’s really grabbing my attention hear. substantial cheesy moldiness, some bright grassy straw too. Taste is lots of the tart zing from lemon and sour apple, but again the funky "dankness" really sticks out. It balances out the tartness, making it remarkably balanced, and doesn’t dry out the palate at all. Also quite a bit more body than I anticipated. Absolutely amazing beer, wonderful balance of funk and tart, and definitely wasn’t the light palate cleanser I thought it was going to be.
4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 dreadnord (127) - Castel Volturno, ITALY - JAN 24, 2012
Bottled in 2007. The pour is dark brownish orange, with some yellow highlights in the bottom of the glass. It has a huge white head that recedes quickly to a thin layer of foam on top that stays around for a considerable time. The nose is old funky tennis shoes, earthy floral bouquet and soured apples. Super complex flavor. The first thing you experience is a sour punch followed buy a bittersweet rush transitioning to bitter and finishing with mouth puckering sour. The mouthfeel on this beer is sharp yet fairly creamy, the aftertaste is superb and lingers for a long time. This is a staple of Cantillon and one of my favorite beers, ever.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Vertical Bacon Strips (1613) - Asshat, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 22, 2012
RBAG 2012. 2007 version. Poured out a light ambery orange colour with a small small head. The aroma is stellar as it always seems to be with Cantillon, green apple, lemon, light pepper, vineous, funk, unsweetened grapefruit and a bit musty. The flavour consists of this stuff that makes yummy happen: sour sour lemons, mustiness, small amount of watered down vinegar, grapefruit, hoppy goodness, apricots (I’ve had unbearably sour apricots), I lied about the vinegar as it really puts out a painful bite, cheese. This is a wonderfully savouring and drinkable beer. Lovely aftertaste.

75cl bottle, 2007 vintage, bottled 15 Dec 2010, split with my wife. Pours an orange-yellow color with a big white head. Aroma is grassy, earth, yeast, lemon. Medium on the palate with soft carbonation. Flavor is sour, light tart, floral, a little citrus lemon, with a tart, floral finish. An amazingly interesting beer.
