4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
750 ml corked and capped green bottle; bottled on May 5, 2012; almost 9 months old. After almost three and a half years on this site, an unblended lambic finally comes my way. This is the last style on this website that I have yet to rate, all other styles long since found and rated. I’m not a trader, so this shit is hard to come by, especially here in North Idaho. I have Russell Mann at Enoteca to thank for this. I placed my order for this about two years or so ago and it took him awhile to get it, but he followed through. Pours murky orange with a large cream-colored head with good retention. Aroma is wonderful in its funkiness, classic lambic barnyard with lemon, floral, earth, SweeTarts--nice and pungent, although my favorite American sours are a bit more up my alley. Taste is nice, sour and acidic, but not quite as mouth-puckering as La Folie or Avery Odio Equum; finishes dry and a little bitter. To my surprise, it’s not flat. I’ve always heard unblended lambics were lacking in carbonation, but this isn’t; it’s actually moderate. Really good, but I prefer Cantillon’s Gueuze. Definitely a worthwhile beer seeking out, even if it takes awhile to find its way into your hands.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Lambic made with only barley (unique as lambic is naturally a wheat beer) launced in 1998. The iris flower symbolizes the city of Brussels. This ’out of the box’ lambic is also partially hopped with fresh hops, which are normally taboo in lambic world. Thick, rocky, yellowish white head, brownish amber colour, darker than normal lambic or geuze, hazy. Aroma has all the ’agressive’ earthy, funky complexity of sulphur, hay, sweat, wood and fruity esters which are to be expected from Cantillon, along with a more caramel malt sweetness showing its pure barley character. Sour, very earthy and funky taste, very complex like any Cantillon product, but nuttier and more caramelly than usual and indeed hoppier in the finish. Very interesting, though I (conservatively, perhaps) prefer ’normal’ lambic or geuze with wheat.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle before dinner. Pour is deep orange peach colour - beautiful. Aroma is a little less complex than the average lambic - mild funk. Taste is up front tang then followed by quite a lemony citrus. Hop bitterness arrives then finally sour again. Finish is bitterness. Overall, good lambic.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Hazy orange pour with strong vinous and barnyard aroma, sour and slightly hoppy taste. Hops are subtle while a strong vinous character predominates this beer. For other lambics i will say they tasted like white whine or champagne while this one has more similarities with red wine. Barnyard taste is perfectly blended. Extremely satisfying.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at Mikkeller SF. It pours a hazy orange-red with a tan head. It has a funky aroma with faint hops, but the flavor is tart fruit and funk up front with a hoppy backbone and dry, dry finish.

Bottle at the source. First you get hit with the hop aroma. Noble hops. Then a cleaning sourness, sour dough. And the finish is dry bitter.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Slightly hazy dark golden with medium white head. Strong aromatic hops on the nose at first. Taste is dough, sour bread, lemon, wood, funk, hay, pine. Really present aroma hops like a lambic IPA. Very dry and sour with deep bitter finish. Medium bodied with very lively carbonation. Great stuff.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
2010 bottle thanks to Mike. Pours a cloudy orange with small frothy off white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is strong funk, yeast, citrus. Thin mouthfeel with nice tart floral hop and light spice with lingering dry finish. Easy to drink, wow really enjoyed this one.
