UPDATED: SEP 1, 2003 Draught. GBBF2003 (kriek tasting session). Hazy cherry red, no head and very little condition. Initially sour on the nose with lambic notes obvious, then a low cherry note emerges with some mouldy wood and a little butteryness. Dry and tart in the mouth, laced with tannin and some cherry at the back of the mouth. Nuttiness is noticable in the finish which is remarkably soft and smooth. Bottled. Blackcurrant colour, no head and good condition. However you describe it it sounds foul, but everyone should try this at least once. Aromas of cherry and sweaty horse, in the mouth it is citric sour- oily on the lips and salty on the tongue. Bone dry finish. Like I said, sounds foul. Try with an open mind.

Ok I didn't read the label first were I was to let it breath first. I was thirsty for a beer. Lambics are not my style but this one was bad. Very tart.

2001 bottling. Had an unusual weight to the body, and rapidly dimishing head. Red and orange, yep, and slightly cloudy. Warms up to great tartness, whoa. A softer woodiness than Hanssens.

UPDATED: AUG 29, 2005 1997 edition, sampled 2003: poured a spooky cloudy ruby red with an orange glare to it..the head dissapeared a tad too quickly...the aroma was tart yet with lots of oak notes..some cherry too..and juicy stuff..wow that is some sour stuff..with a strange cherry flavor..sugary cherries..but the tartness is strong in this bad boy..the cherry has a wierd smokiness to it..or something like a hard candy..

Bottled in 1998. Pours a red/orange color with a slight, light pink head. The aroma is very tart and woody. The cherries show their face after a little time, as does some old cheese. The flavors are again quite woody and sour/tart. The cherry is even less pronounced here than in the nose. Smooth and satisfying fell, but the finish is a little short and sort of drops off. Not Cantillon’s best, but still good drinking.

Cherries, old midewy wood, and viniger. Lambic tartness with oak and cherry. Not too overpouring but a definate zing to it. Lemon grass and some dusty grapeskins. Not as tart as others from Cantillon.

burnt orange in color. white head that leaves thin streaks on top of the liquid for a while. tart smelling! also a bit of wet hay in the aroma. the first hing to mind as it is tasted is that this is a tart, sour drink. highly acidic. the flavor has tart grape skins in it. only a hint of cherry in the very end of the taste. leaves the mouth nice and clean. the cherries become more apparent in the burps afterwards but inst that always the case?

It makes my mouth all hurty. Incredibly sour acidic concoction--lemon, vinegar, grapefruit skins, hay, and just a hint of cherry.

Well I’m glad I didn’t get the Lou Pepe... some basement, earthy, slightly wooded barn/wet dog aromas, very mild acetic acid, not bone dry, sour cherries with no sweet relief. I’m glad it’s not too effervescent or the acids would kill me. Instead it’s pretty easy drinking. Perfect picnic brew.
