4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Grovlam (4106) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - MAY 21, 2008
Bottle 75 cl. Vintage 1998 [Courtesy of Hildigöltur, thanks buddy] Large thick creamy white head that really lasted. Amazing for a Gueuze! Good display of lacework as well. Cloudy to hazy golden color. Aroma was extremely complex with notes of perfume, fresh apple, vinegar, milky acidic, hors blanket, wild yeasty notes. Over the palate came citrus, wheat, sour fruity notes as well. Full bodied with a soft carbonation and very smooth dry texture. Moderated acidic flavor with good counter sweetness. This was a quit unique experience as Gueuze normally is very carbonated, but this vintage came out very smooth. Sour dry fruity finish that lingers. Excellent and what a surprise Jacob!

[thank you so much, Hildigöltur for bringing this in for my 3,000th rating!!]
[vintage 1998]
Pours deep, slightly muddy, yellow with a fine, creamy white head. Excellent duration for a gueuze, fine lacing as well. Aroma is softly tart, good notes of oranges, barnyard and citric fruits. But generally very soft. Light carbonation, super dryness. Flavour starts of with some soft, sweet caramel. Then turns good tart, mostly citric and light lactic. Not that much brett-iness. Crazily elegant and drinkable... Wow, what a beer!

Again, thanks miketd: Not a sour fan, but I did get into this beer. Poured an inviting, warm orange. Flavor is earthy, sour, musky with fermented citrus. Not overwhelming; actually, very pleasant and sippable.

From a 750mL Bottle, Vintage 1998. Generously shared by cquiroga. Mostly transparent, pale gold colored
pour with a finger of fizzy white head. Funky aromas of leather, lemon rind, and a light pedio-cheesy, lactic
sourness jump out of the glass instantly. Complex, but the aromas have a bit of a dull, dusty edge to them and
lack the brightness that only the mind blowing geuezes seem to deliver. Light bodied, moderately carbonated
mouthfeel with a light acidity. Flavors of tart lemons and lactic sourness combine with some musty peppers and
white grape skins. Complex, aged funk complexity and a dry, crisp finish. Thanks for sharing, Chris!

I’ll admit that the gueuze genre isn’t usually my favorite, but the funkiness in this one was nice and it finished very smoothly.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 rudolf (2229) - Buffalo, New York, USA - APR 4, 2008
Hazy golden orange, white head. Nose is fruity lemon sourness - citrus, earthy & far more Cantillon-esque than many other Cantillons we’ve had today. Flavor is very tart lemon, wood, citric acid. Finish gets a bit smoother - hay-like malt comes through & the lemon sweetens up a bit.

(2/26/08) Bottle at Bier Circus in Brussels. Vintage 1998. Slightly hazy orange with a medium white head that disappears rather fast. Barnyard aroma with citrus, other fruits and wood. Nice dry sour flavor with a lot of citrus - lemon, a bit of grapefruit and maybe some other fruits as well. I also sense some sweetish undertones. Medium-bodied. Great stuff.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 jerc (5446) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 16, 2008
2008-03-04. Lightly hazy amber body, thin off-white head. Aroma is musty, light yeasty funk, notes of straw and dried grass. (7+) Flavour ranges from light refreshing sourness up front that builds as a wave across the tongue crashing into a full blown tsunami of mouth puckering Cantillon sourness when it reaches the back of the mouth. Minor notes of lemon seeds, very muted fruit acidity that becomes more noticeable as you drink through the bottle and become acclimatized to the sourness. (Nirvana just came over the stereo... hmmm) Fairly still, average palate seems fairly standard for lambics. Its no Girardin Black Label, but its rather nice. Bottle at Bier Circus, Brussels
