COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fresh sour cherries (krieken) in two year old Lambiek. We use approximately 300 gr cherries for 1 liter Kriek. The second fermentation in the bottle is obtained through addition of a liqueur, made with beer and saccharose.

UPDATED: NOV 2, 2012 2009 sticker vintage poured into a Duvel art glass tulip. Pours a deep red/burgundy in color with about a fingers worth of light pink head. Head dissipated rather quickly. Nose is stellar, it’s Schaerbeekse cherry skins, lemon, and some mustiness. Nose translates over to the flavor. It starts out with the sour cherry and continues with lactic lemon goodness. The cherry endures well throughout the sip. Light mouthfeel, heavy acidity, light carbonation, and a long finish. My third favorite of the regular Cantillons fruit lambics behind Fou Foune and Saint Lamnivus. Great color, nose, and taste on this, I could drink this by the gallon (and subsequently did when it was on tap at Zwanze Day 2011).

750mL from some place in Portland long before Cantillon was difficult to find. 2007 sticker date/2009 bottling date. A: Pours a deep plum with a light pink head. Sits pretty in the glass - if you were to show this to someone they might call it a chick beer. Poor ignorant bastards. N: Lots of ripe sour cherries, oak, some vinegar and glue. Wine grape and raspberry jame in here. Some straw and lemon zest. T: Cherry dominant. Rounded sourness with a touch of fruity sweetness. Has a wonderful depth of oak and fruits. M: Sharply carbonated with a light, manageable body. I love how the Belgians are able to get such character into such a drinkable beer. O: Tasty and it seems like it’s balanced out the fruit and the funk at this point. Delicious. Need more.

750ml bottle, 2009 Vintage, from La Cerveteca in Barcelona. Pours a cloudy, ruby-brown colored body with a finger-width, fizzy, pinkish head that dissipates quickly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma has a nice balance of tart and slightly sweet cherries with some dry funk, wet oak, must, and lactic acid. Flavor is similar. Tart cherries up front with some lemony notes and a good amount of wet oak before some sweeter cherries come in alongside a nice musty funk. Lactic acid comes out more towards the end before this finishes pretty tart and dry, but really well balanced with a touch of sweetness and a nice, light funk. Fairly lengthy aftertaste following a light body and a somewhat active, soft, moderate carbonation. Overall, this is a pretty awesome Kriek. Very dry and tart, but there is a slight sweetness from the cherries that provides a really nice complexity. The light funk, wet wood, and lactic acid stay balanced as well. Damn good beer.

Bottle at Akkurat. 2008. Hazy reddish liquid with small to medium white head. Aroma of lemons, almonds, barnyard, cherries, apples and funk. Taste is dry and medium to high sour with notes of cherries, almonds, funk and lemons. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Very nice and sour. Still lots of cherries.

2010. Pours ruby red with white/pink hued head. Aroma is overwhelming cherry pie, lemon, funk, hint of oak. Taste is much more balanced and enjoyable than their regular kriek - sour cherries, oak, tart with a hint of acidity and a nice pleasant fruit sourness in the finish, dry. Great stuff! Perfect balance of fruit and sour. Hard to beat this
