Commercial Description:
"It has the colour of onion skin", said a voice behind me. It was Raymond Coumans. He was admiring the colour of the raspberry lambic reflecting in the red copper of the buckets used to empty the barrels. At that time (1986), "Raspberry-Lambic" already was synonymous with a sweet, artificially flavoured beer. This is why we decided to distinguish our beer from the other raspberry beers. Raymond proposed to call it a rosé, dedicated not to Bacchus but to Gambrinus.

The process to make this beer is identical to the one to make Kriek. When young, the Rosé de Gambrinus will still present its full fruity taste. Later on, the lambic taste will become dominant at the expense of the fruit taste.

12 oz bottle 2005 edition from College Liquors in Grand Junction, CO I think. Pours a clear coppery rust color with a medium white head that quickly dies. The aroma is sour, some flowery notes and light fruit. The flavor has a funky sour quality to it that is mostly perceived in the nose not the tongue, like gasoline. There is definitely a fruity-tart raspberry here and some light flowery flavors. Very light overall, not a huge acidic brew, and nice overall.

Bright ruby color and cloudy. Taste is tart and fruity. Taste is quite tart as well with that un-ripened raspberry flavor. Acidic and dry.

Vintage 2007. Hazy orange pour with pinkish hues, fizzy off white head, and spotty lace. Leather and tart raspberry on the nose. Highly acidic up front with a leathery, horse blanket and raspberry finish . Im not surprised that Cantillon has another solid & acidic lambic

Bottle (2008). Pours a dark pink with a medium light pink head. OK lacing around the glass. Aroma of sour raspberries and vinegar. The flavour is true Cantillon with vinegar like acidity and raspberry touch. Dry and sour finish. Bottle is young and would like to sample this again after some years in the cellar.

750ml bottle 2006 vintage. nice light pink-orange color, interesting. Smells slightly funky, hay, subtle. The flavor is more fruity lambic, sour and only once did I distinctly taste raspberry but it was like I bit into one. Other than that the raspberries were muted into a general fruitiness. I’d be interested in getting a fresher bottle to compare but I was not disappointed in this beer. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 11-24-2008 06:00:42
