"It has the colour of onion skin", said a voice behind me. It was Raymond Coumans. He was admiring the colour of the raspberry lambic reflecting in the red copper of the buckets used to empty the barrels. At that time (1986), "Raspberry-Lambic" already was synonymous with a sweet, artificially flavoured beer. This is why we decided to distinguish our beer from the other raspberry beers. Raymond proposed to call it a rosé, dedicated not to Bacchus but to Gambrinus.

The process to make this beer is identical to the one to make Kriek. When young, the Rosé de Gambrinus will still present its full fruity taste. Later on, the lambic taste will become dominant at the expense of the fruit taste.

From a bottle at Derby Beer Fest. Pour a deep red with a pink head. Smells fruit with the sour notes coming through. Sourness edge is taken off by the fruit. It’s a great beer and a good starter lambic.

Bottle. Beautiful red color and pale pink head. Aroma of acidity, sour raspberry, funk, leather, wine. Taste is medium sour, dry. Flavor of sour raspberry, lemon, funky with long tart aftertaste with wine character. Medium body, soft carbonation. Great stuff.

Bitter and low in carbonation, intense red colour and good foam stability. Delicate and light in sourness.

Bottle. I can not believe I don’t have this rated. Nose is raspberry, cellar, lemon, wheat, straw, farmyard, wood, oak, warm leather. Taste is tart, leather, oak, wheat, leading to lemon juice, funk, leaves, vinegar, cheese, then a bone dry raspberry flavour with a herbal note. Moutfeel is tacky and full. The first lambic I fell in love with, and a beer that truly changed my palate and drinking habits. Peerless, in that it handles fruit in a way that respect the flavour of the fruit rather than just the sugars of the fruit.

Appearance: clear ruby red with a short frothy pink head diminishing rapidly to a thin skim, no lacing. (4/5) Aroma: raspberries, vinegar, funk, stone fruit, leather, tobacco, woody. (9/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderately strong tart. (9/10) Palate: light to medium body, lively to moderate carbonation, dry intensely tart finish. (5/5) So good. Intense raspberry that in no way feels artificial, blending perfectly with a loverly tart lambic base, with overarching complicating notes of horseblankety funk, leather, wood, and, let’s face it, just about anything else you can think of. This is a new bottle that I just recently obtained at the brewery, so the fruit is still very much dominant at the forefront. I‘ve had a 2014 vintage in my cellar for just about a year now, that I’m going to continue to cellar for a while longer - maybe another year or two - before seeing what happens as the fruit fades and the lambic is allowed to gain ground. (18/20)

Bottle. Pours clear intense reddish pink with creamy pink head. Looks amazing. Aroma is tart raspberries, sour, funky leather, acidic grapes and apples, some wine notes, oak, slight vanilla and slight oxidation. Really fruity, yet tart. Taste is the same. Tart and sour raspberries, un-ripe ones, grapes, apples, vinegar and some dry cherries. Leather and canton funk. Smooth carbonation and really refreshing light body. Loads of taste.

Clear perfect ruby color with light pinknfoam layer. Very Brett like smell with a lot of raspberry. The taste is delightfully sour with a fitting raspberry part. Over carbonated in the beginning, but insanely pleasant, after some of it decayed. Dry and sour fruity aftertaste. This beer is an absolute pleasure to drink.

Goddamn this is so perfect. The aroma is a heady mix of ripe raspberry fruit and foilage, woodiness and funk. Bucket list this shit.
