Commercial Description:
"It has the colour of onion skin", said a voice behind me. It was Raymond Coumans. He was admiring the colour of the raspberry lambic reflecting in the red copper of the buckets used to empty the barrels. At that time (1986), "Raspberry-Lambic" already was synonymous with a sweet, artificially flavoured beer. This is why we decided to distinguish our beer from the other raspberry beers. Raymond proposed to call it a rosé, dedicated not to Bacchus but to Gambrinus.

The process to make this beer is identical to the one to make Kriek. When young, the Rosé de Gambrinus will still present its full fruity taste. Later on, the lambic taste will become dominant at the expense of the fruit taste.

Pours a light pinkish red color. Aroma is funky and musty, a la horse blanket. Taste is very tangy and complex but very acidic.

Pours a reddish-orange with an ephemeral white head. Sharp vinegar and barnyard aroma. The taste is dominated by the acidity and I had difficulty detecting any fruit. Thin mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. I was really excited to try this one, but I seemed to have missed out on its complexity. I guess I’ll have to revisit this one when my palate has developed further.

Bottle. Pours hazy ruby watermelon orange, delicate pink-lavender, white hued head. Aroma is berries, funky, musty, tangy, bleu cheese, also that smell when you first light charcoal for a BB-Q. Flavor is slight charcoal, sour tangy raspberry, sour dough, bleu cheese, popsicle stick wood after you’ve finished the popsicle. I’ve been having a pretty awful day, and this lambic just hit the spot.

75Oml bottle in the Kulminator thanks to Dirk. One of the first batches ever produced in 1984. Sampled this outstanding beer with magic_dave6 on our first day in Antwerp. Colour is a pale pinish rose with mimial head. Unlike younger versions thevolume of lactic sourness has mellowed out although still produced a fabulous tart fruity aroma but with less of the nostril stinging barnyard funk and more pleasant raspberry, cranberry and lemon sherbert undertones. Taste is similar, bombarding the mouth with fantastic tart fruity bangs Cantallion have developed so well. Still has as sour, dry bone character but less intense in turning your face inside out on sourness. A Totally outstanding one- off!! Aged cantillon is the way forward

Appearance: Blush-like pinkish red. "Rose" is correct. Reminiscent of the Hi-C ’Tropical Punch’ juices I had as a kid in elementary school. A few bubbles standing guard around the edge of the glass, but no real head to speak of. Smell: OMG! Such an acrid, stinging odor. A caustic tartness is easily perceived. Barnyard stable funk. Piercing lemon sourness fills the nose as well as the rich aroma of the noble raspberry and flowers. Very exciting! Taste: Ah, the smell translates quite well into the taste. A biting tartness you really should be sitting down for invades the tongue, accompanied by bright, sporadic flashes of fresh raspberry fruitiness and an easy earthy mustiness. Mouthfeel: The finish is remarkably clean after the initial punch of each sip, leaving you craving ever more. Completely refreshing with a gently sparkling effervescence. Drinkability: Excellence that deserves to be tasted again. After a few sickly sweet Lindeman’s, I was a bit uneasy about trying more from this style, but I’m very glad I did. ChainGangGuy Approved!

Trade from Ross. Pours a hazy peach color. Aroma is of must, barnyard, light rasberry and vinuous notes. Taste is very sour(duh.), with light rasberry, must and woods noses. Light carbonation with slight dry finish. Another fine Cantillon.

Bottle (75 cl) from Systembolaget. Hazy deep red, medium shortlived fizzy pink head. Cidery aroma of apples and fresh raspberries, some wooden notes in the background. medium bodied, prickly carbonation. Extremely sour, hard to finish even half a bottle.
