To celebrate the successful completion of a 100-mile century, I popped this one open on Labor Day. It was a bit pricy but extremely enjoyable. If only it were less than $7.50 per bottle I would pick it up more often. As it is, it remains a nice change of pace from stouts and pale ales. According to the cork my bottle was sealed in 2004.
Aroma / Appearance - Sour raspberries, cedar chips and a general funk compose the bulk of the nose. It is not extremely complex but it is very balanced and fun to smell. The body poured into my champagne flute with no head, leaving behind a maple syrup colored body. There was plenty of carbonation; it did not start to fade until the glass was almost three-quarters empty.
Flavor / Palate - The first thing I picked up on was the sourness. While not quite as mouth-puckering or throat clearing as La Folie, it still packed a nice kick. When my taste buds returned, I detected a nice mixture of raspberries, vanilla, peaches and a vinegary funk (though not in a bad way as you would get with other styles). The finish was extremely distinct; it resembled the taste you would get some trying to chew on a handful of mulch. The sourness is the main star here but the total package is one that everyone should enjoy. Develop your palate first though so you don’t come away thinking ’this is not beer’. chicagobears (336), Elk Grove Village, Illinois, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 4, 2006 Pours a orange blush. Aroma of cherries, raspberries, and vinegar. Very complex flavors with lemons, vinegar, oak, raspberry. The rasberry flavors are still present in this 2004 bottle. Not as tart and sour as I thought it would be. My first experience with a Cantillon was much more pugent and acidic. This is still tart and dry, but its not so overwhelming that I can’t enjoy it. This seems to be balanced well with the complex lambic and rasberry and cherry flavor. Very refreshing and delicate. Indeed a special beer. TheBeerOrg (1568), Kentucky, USA

Aroma of cherries, raspberries, and sour apples. Taste is fruity, tart, and slightly sour. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a soft supple carbonation. Delicious! biggcb (459), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma was very sour, with a hint of raspberry. Flavor is much the same - quite sour, very sharp & crisp, with some raspberry undertones. Very dry.
