"It has the colour of onion skin", said a voice behind me. It was Raymond Coumans. He was admiring the colour of the raspberry lambic reflecting in the red copper of the buckets used to empty the barrels. At that time (1986), "Raspberry-Lambic" already was synonymous with a sweet, artificially flavoured beer. This is why we decided to distinguish our beer from the other raspberry beers. Raymond proposed to call it a rosé, dedicated not to Bacchus but to Gambrinus.

The process to make this beer is identical to the one to make Kriek. When young, the Rosé de Gambrinus will still present its full fruity taste. Later on, the lambic taste will become dominant at the expense of the fruit taste.

Bottled dec '11. Had may '12. Still rather fruity with a huge aroma of mostly funk. Raspberry comes through though in the taste where it is still big. I'll have another. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottled September 2015. Pours dark pink from the bottle. Lots of evident carbonation. A fairly nice head develops at first, but soon fizzes away. Aroma is raspberry drenched with vinegar, plus a dollop of honey. Taste is sour ... very, very sour. More raspberries drowned in vinegar. Virtually acidic. Finishes dry with a sort of barnyard funk that lingers on the tongue and the ensuing burps. Did I mention it is sour? Body is light to medium and quite fizzy. The acidic feel keeps it from being refreshing, although it might be just the thing for killing any germs in the throat. I needed help getting through it. Could be an off bottle, I am not an aficionado of the style, but this one is clearly not cutting it for me.

Cherry red pour, smaller pink head that leaves a small ring. Fruity aroma, funk, jams, raspberry, oak. Tart raspberry up front, funky, wood, light bitterness. Medium body. Great balance. 2016 bottle

Pours a hazy purple red from the bottle with bubbly pink white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of tart raspberry over big funk and oak notes. Taste is huge funk with light raspberry, fresh oaky notes, and horse blanket goodness. Amazing balance, soft carbonation, super pleasant.

Bottle - Raspberry, funk and some acidity. Deep red with a small white pink head. Petroleum funk, raspberry and a nice light acidity with a nice finish. There is a touch of bitterness in the middle which adds some nice complexity. Nice.

Draft at The Sovereign on opening night, then 375ml bottle yesterday at The Sovereign on Zwanze Day 2016. Hazy moderate red with small white head. Tart and acidic raspberries, yeast, hay, lite barnyard funk, grains. Touch too acidic, but really nice.

2012 bottle pours a rusty clear colour with a ring of foam along the edge of the glass. The nose gas candies raspberries almost winegum like. The taste is just as candied but with waves of bretty funk and citric freshness. Mouthfeel is medium with soft bubbles. Finishes super fruity and mineral. Best rdg I’ve had.

Heavy aroma of berries, tart, brettanomyces and acidity.

Turbid/opaque dark orange/red beer with a slight/medium pink head.

Starts medium sweet with berries; ends medium dry and sour with tart, brettanomyces and acidity.

This beer is intense, complex and balanced. The aroma is extremely sour, to the extent that it actually costs a point or two. The taste is more in line with what I like and want from this style. Amazing appearance and the palate is great too.

Very sweet tart raspberry aroma. Cloudy pink color with thin pink head. Great balance of tart rasp/cran sweet/funk. Delicious.
