Commercial Description:
"It has the colour of onion skin", said a voice behind me. It was Raymond Coumans. He was admiring the colour of the raspberry lambic reflecting in the red copper of the buckets used to empty the barrels. At that time (1986), "Raspberry-Lambic" already was synonymous with a sweet, artificially flavoured beer. This is why we decided to distinguish our beer from the other raspberry beers. Raymond proposed to call it a rosé, dedicated not to Bacchus but to Gambrinus.

The process to make this beer is identical to the one to make Kriek. When young, the Rosé de Gambrinus will still present its full fruity taste. Later on, the lambic taste will become dominant at the expense of the fruit taste.

Appearance: Blush-like pinkish red. "Rose" is correct. Reminiscent of the Hi-C ’Tropical Punch’ juices I had as a kid in elementary school. A few bubbles standing guard around the edge of the glass, but no real head to speak of. Smell: OMG! Such an acrid, stinging odor. A caustic tartness is easily perceived. Barnyard stable funk. Piercing lemon sourness fills the nose as well as the rich aroma of the noble raspberry and flowers. Very exciting! Taste: Ah, the smell translates quite well into the taste. A biting tartness you really should be sitting down for invades the tongue, accompanied by bright, sporadic flashes of fresh raspberry fruitiness and an easy earthy mustiness. Mouthfeel: The finish is remarkably clean after the initial punch of each sip, leaving you craving ever more. Completely refreshing with a gently sparkling effervescence. Drinkability: Excellence that deserves to be tasted again. After a few sickly sweet Lindeman’s, I was a bit uneasy about trying more from this style, but I’m very glad I did. ChainGangGuy Approved!

Bottle, smokeless joe’s. Ruby red colour, very little head. Incredibly sour nose with hints of raspberry. Taste is certainly not simple to describe - very sour, tart, yet dry and fruity, with lots of berry in there. I really enjoyed the finish - very long - quenching, and it really hits the back of your throat. A really unique and enjoyable experience.

Bottle: Real nice tart raspberry aroma. Pours a hazy orangish-yellowish-pink with a white head that quickly fades to a ring. Very tart and sour raspberry. Seems to get even more tart in the finish. Thanks to Eyedrinkale.

(Was told at the brewery that this IS the raspberry) Smells like the gueuze with a hint of raspberries. Strawberry red, cloudy with little pink lacing. Med watery body & low carb. Very tart & dry. Acetic. Hint of raspberries, but not as pronounced as the cherry. Dry alum after.

Naked ladies on the label are always an eye catcher but this one didn’t quite get my taste bud going. Aroma of fermented fruit and got a verry tart flavor on the palate. Not the best lambic but alright.

Sweet raspberry nose and taste, of course. The sourness is crazy and makes your mouth pucker, but this is somehow immensly enjoyable. Maybe the chalky dry end sets of the tartness enough to make it bareable. Attractive dark pink color and a tall fluffy head.

Hazy orange-pink colour. Rich aroma of sour fruit, barnyard, wood and a bit of cheese. Dry, quenching body. Complex flavour of sour raspberry, citrus, dry wine and SweetTarts candy. Finish is long, dry and puckeringly tart. Damn good!

Great orange (clear) colour with a thick dense white head. Aroma of cherries, tart raspberries, malt and a bit of spices. Medium to Light-bodied; Sour raspberry taste with a nice lasting sour quality. Aftertaste noticeably sour way after the last sip! Overall, a very nice Lambic-I thought it was a Flemish Sour when I was drinking it however. I split this twelve ounce bottle with Haddon90 (Phil) at R.F.D. in Washington on 28-November-2003.
