Beerlando (2284), Orlando, Florida, USA Dec 7, 2008 2004 vintage, aged 4 years. The hazy, golden-orange amber body is topped with a wispy, snow white film with a pronounced, solid edge. A soapy wash leaves random spots of lace behind. The signature Cantillon must is the first scent to hit the nose, very barnyard-like and dusty in character. Sour green grapes, apricots, and peaches are soon to follow, as is worn leather and an overall shroud of dust. Flavors are strikingly sour, ascorbic lemon and grape notes showing strong through the musty, dusty cloud of horseblanket funk. There is a hint of sharp, old cheese somewhere within as well. Light carbonation gives this medium bodied brew a slick feel up front, followed by a bone dry finish. This is not my favorite Cantillon, by any means, but it is solid as usual, and the Muscat grapes lend a very unique twist. mistersinalin (367), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Dec 6, 2008 This was a nice crisp lambic, but with a hint of grape sweetness that balences it perfectly. I cant compare this to anything else I have tried. hiddenvariable (194), pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 1, 2008 pours a hazy (even at room temperature) peach, with a thin whitish head that quickly fades to nothing. i can hear it bubbling, champagne-like, in the glass. even while pouring the funk came out, with a good sour bit of cheese. closer inspection yields--surprise!--funky cheesy barnyard, dominating lemon zest and white grapes and straw. the grapes come out a bit more in the taste, and woo! that’s tart. it’s been a while since i’ve had a cantillon, i guess. there’s sort of a note of white grape juice playing around in the background of less funk, more acidic lemon. i feel like this is going to give me heartburn, it’s so acidic! good stuff! gentle notes of oak here and there, along with light malt. sharp sour finish that i can feel on my tongue and lips a full minute after my most recent sip. puckering, one might say. good bubbly effervescence, and a bit slick on the mouth. oh-so-sour. another interesting one from cantillon. i like foufoune better, but this is tasty. WinoInTraining (104), Longmont, Colorado, USA Nov 30, 2008 Lovely! nose like muscat gummies, barnyard, hay.
great balance! great texture, full and rich but not heavy.
tart!
Not for the avg beer drinker, unless you like it sour! Travlr (700), Washington, Washington DC, USA Nov 28, 2008 A slightly sweeter version of the lambic, still with the usual Cantiilon horse-blanket taste and dry sour finish. hopscotch (5440), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Nov 19, 2008 Updated: Jan 19, 2009Bottle… This beer rocks!... Cloudy light yellow ale with a small, creamy, white head. Decent retention. The nose is all about unadulterated barnyard funk – earth, crap, leather and sharp cheese. Medium-bodied and lightly creamy with effervescent carbonation. Sour, but not insanely so, with a green apple note. Gentle bitterness. Crisp, tart, dry finish. Another world class offering from Cantillon! petermadsen (391), Vesterbronxxx, Denmark Nov 1, 2008 WOW! This is an absolutely fantastic beer. Pours dirty yellow with sediments floating around and a small, white head. The aroma is musty with notes of hay and fruit. The flavour is intensily sour with the classic lambic notes of barnyard, dust and dirt but with a wonderfull fruity and flowery muscat dimension. masonjer (560), Holt, Michigan, USA Oct 27, 2008 Poured orange from the bottle with a nice big white head. Aroma was white grapes, hay, vinegar, barnyard and must. Taste was nice funk, more reserved than most lambics, white grapes, fruit and vinegar. Fairly nice overall. Much more accessible.
