UselessGdTaste (363), Long Beach, California, USA May 11, 2008 Powerfully sour. I was not expecting it to be as sour as it was, especially since the commercial description states that it is more mellow than other ones. I disagree. This bottle from 2005 actually took the sour notch up quite a bit. It was delicious though. A bit more Gueuzey than the other ones (rose, etc) simply because the grape was not as obvious. Great beer! fredandboboflo (1395), East Setauket, New York, USA May 8, 2008 Bottle, 2005. Aroma mostly the typical Cantillon funk and sourness with a hint of grapey sweetness balancing things out, but remaining in the background. Flavor starts off much the same way, but by the time the swallow comes about, there are tiny, tiny, tiny, green, green, green, sour, sour, sour grapes darting about the mouth. These buggers remain on the lips as uber-tart reminders of what just happened for a good while. Such a unique (and luscious) experience, even amongst other Cantillons of the same style. LilBeerDoctor (1480), East Setauket, New York, USA May 8, 2008 Bottle (bottled in 2005). Pours a clear light orange with no head. Aroma and flavor of tartness, super sour green grapes, wood, the usual barnyard funk, bitter melon rind. Finish almost tastes like wine. Tasty, but soooo sour! It took me about 2 hours to finish one wine glass full of this! grimreeser (795), Minnesota, USA Apr 26, 2008 Pours a hazy orange with a thin head. Aroma of funk and grapes. Sour and tart, slight sweetness. Finishes very dry. yespr (11645), Copenhagen O, Denmark Apr 25, 2008 37.5 cL bottle, cheers Jeppe! Pours hazy to murky orange with a fully diminished white head. Classic dry Cantillon barnyard aroma with a light citric touch. Flavour is nicely balanced between fruity grapes notes and a solid acidic/citric brett dryness. Tart fruity flavour following with a solid wooden note. Nice citric bite in the finish. Fin (3382), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Apr 19, 2008 Bottle, picked this up from Dranken Geers, Gent, consumed 18-04-08 Golden moving towards an orangey colour, some haze but any head that was there had disappeared by the time I’d turned around an put another CD on. Has a gentle sweetness ’honeylike’ that counteracts the sourness marvellously. There is a very wine like character to this and it really is quite wonderful, the usual full on sharp and very tart assault on the tastebuds is slapped down big style by the grapes. I feel like I should be laid out sipping a glass of this on a grassy bank whilst a slow moving babbling brook gently provides a nice coolness to the warming sun and with the chattering of birds in the background. xmarcnolanx (789), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA Apr 9, 2008 Shit, my rating was erased.
Anyway, I got a lot of oak out of this in the aroma, some sweet grape and classic gueze-like nuances.
Flavor is sweet grape, sour gueze, some malt and sugar.
Very mouthpuckeringly sour and finishes crisp and oaky.
Very solid. faroeviking (6024), Republica Vikingo de las, Faroe Islands Apr 7, 2008 Bottle. Vintage 2005. Courtesy of Jeremy from Den Tatoverede Enke. Pours a quite hazy orange colour with a fast disappearing fizzy whote head. Nce sour aroma with mold and soil. Good mouthfeel. Sour and mouldy, soft sweet citrus well balanced flavour.
