Glouglouburp (2778), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Nov 12, 2006 Clear yellow body with a very small white head. Aroma was that of a typical lambic beer with barnyard and all that good stuff. That’s where the fun stopped for me. To say that this beer is vinous and fruity would be the biggest understatement since Noah said it looked like rain. This is as much a white wine as it is a lambic. Very delicate, a bit sour, full of white grapes and cheesy yeast. This is an original well brewed beer but it’s not for me. pantani (1894), Salinas, California, USA Nov 10, 2006 Rating #900- body is a foggy orange gold, with no head present. Aroma is very tart, with lemon, salt, and a white wine type aroma. Very tart taste, you can catch the grapes lightly after the initial taste, has a destinct tang that I usually don’t catch with Lambic’s yngwie (4880), Kristiansand, Norway Nov 10, 2006 Bottled at Horsens Beerfestival. Yellow-orange, unclear, with a minimal white head. The aroma is sour, white wine-like and with notes of barnyard. Lemony and sour flavor. The mouthfeel is thin and flat as well as astringent and palate-cleaning. Intensely sour, nice beer. (061028) fonefan (10868), VestJylland, Denmark Nov 4, 2006 Bottle. Cloudy yellow brown color with a large head that quickly disappears. Tart, grape (vindruer), yeasty aroma. Extremely sour. Grape was detectable only as a sour, underripe grape juice aftertaste.
Schultsc (478), Henderson, Nevada, USA Nov 2, 2006 Cloudy light gold with light orange highlights and a thin white head. Nose-tingling sourness and distinct lambic character in the aroma with only a hint of fruit. Dry and bracingly tart--not particularly vinous or grapey--the fruit character comes through very neutrally--mainly as a sidenote to the lambic fermentation character (which is itself quite powerful). Light body with a lot of acidity provides for a quick, clean finish with multi-layered sourness. FoolishMortal (965), San Diego, California, USA Oct 19, 2006 750mL bottle, 2005 vintage. Murky yellow-orange with a burst of effervescence that dies down to a thin film of head. Muskiness; horseblanket and rain-soaked cow pasture, with an underlying acetic tinge. Acetic sourness dominates the flavor profile, with a pantina of horsey muskiness. Some sharp tannic grape character breaks through in the finish, with residual must and tartness. Mouthfeel is light, very dry. Stefano (1323), Esbjerg, Denmark Oct 15, 2006 Cloudy, yellow brown with a large head that quickly disappears. Tart, apply, yeasty aroma. Extremely sour. Grape was detectable only as a sour, underripe grape juice aftertaste. WeeHeavySD (2941), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Sep 20, 2006 750ml. Bottle. Purchased at Hight Times Wine Cellar in Costa, Mesa CA. I love Cantillon brews, after visitng the brewery I’ve wanted to try everything that has every left that space and I was glad to finally un cork this. The beer pours a light hazy orangish yellow. There is a light head that fades to almost nothing. The aroma is subtle and slightly sweet with a grape tinge. The brew tastes very much like a slightly altered gueze. If I was tasting this blind I might be convinced this was a gueze, but the finish and aftertaste certainly have a grape taste that shine through. Drinkable, but tart, not recommended for a lambic novice, if your a pro dive in and don’t come up for air anytime soon.
