Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA Feb 24, 2006 Bottle. Big classic Cantillon geuze nose-horsey, barn, brettriffic! Deep yellow fizzy body that looks like heavy champagne. Taste-instant sour blast followed by a quick sweet thinness. Toasty brett, oak, light tart tannins, lingering astringency, light pear and apple. Overall not one of Cantillon’s best beers, but even this is way above average. To sum it up, this is a classic Cantillon geuze with some lingering fruit and a thinner body. Gets an extra point on appearance for lively CO2 and foam ring. oldstock23 (11), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Feb 11, 2006 Gueuze gueuze gueuze! This is the latest Cantillon I’ve tasted. No head, very thin and has an orange appearance. Served in a fantome tulip - perfect glass for it. Big nose with grapefruit notes all over the place with that ever-present barnyard signature the brewery is known for. Sour grapes force you to breathe for a moment...definitely an onslaught of sourness. Had this as a palate cleanser in the middle of a barleywine tasting...a very refreshing and needed break. Get it.
TURDFERGUSON (1594), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Jan 16, 2006 wow, this beer is taking me to funky town and i dont want to leave. pours an almost opague light orange with little to no lacing. the aroma continues to overwhelm me but i cant keep my nose out of it except to take a nice swig. yummy sourness i love it. must
go to brussels now! shadey (1496), Rochester, New York, USA Jan 13, 2006 Hazy golden color. No head. Aroma is full and tart. Pretty well balanced, some nice sweet honey in there. The finish is sour. IslandHaole (1035), Onna-Son, Okinawa-Ken, Japan Jan 12, 2006 750 ML bottle, Bottled 2001, #494. Thank you Santa FooFaa!
A honey colored brew, slightly hazy with an off-white head that quickly fades to a ring hugging the edge of the glass. Definately has that "Barnyard" scent to it, heavy tannins, like a young Carbernet. My mouth starts to water every time I smell a Lambic, just like pickled peppers! Pure pucker juice, though not as bad, (or good depending on your perspective) as the regular Gueuze is, slightly mellower, astringent, lightly fruity plenty of old barrel flavors. I’m glad I have a good bottle stopper, I can’t imagine drinking the entire bottle by myself in one sitting. Though I appreciate the style now more than I did when I first tried it a few years ago, I seriously doubt it will ever climb into the top 10 of mine. rudolf (1734), Buffalo, New York, USA Jan 9, 2006 Cloudy gold. A thin white head disspappears quickly. I can smell this one from a few feet away. Lemon& funk. Closer inspection reveals yeast, lemon, light honey, wood, orange and.. god help me.. cat piss. Sour even for Cantillon with oak, lemon, funk, very tart/sour orange. Slight vinousness and some honey in the finish. Grapefruit as well. ChillCoat (1029), Concord, California, USA Jan 6, 2006 Bottled. pours a pale copper with strawberry colored hues. Big white head fades quickly leaving no lace. Slight horse blanket aroma with some apple, hay, grape and earthy notes. Tart and somewhat bitter with a dry, musty aftertaste. Tastes of grapefruit, cobwebs and straw. Very understated and pleasant to drink. hughie (3016), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England Dec 28, 2005 Pale yellow with a lot of fizz and a strange cheesy aroma. The first taste was sweet and cidery, but the overwhelming impression was refreshingly tart and dry. Grapefruit and other citrus flavours came and went. Unusual, challenging beer.
