hughie (3019), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England Dec 28, 2005 Pale yellow with a lot of fizz and a strange cheesy aroma. The first taste was sweet and cidery, but the overwhelming impression was refreshingly tart and dry. Grapefruit and other citrus flavours came and went. Unusual, challenging beer. mullet (798), Melbourne, Australia Dec 27, 2005 2004 bottle. Fizzy, zero head, slightly hazy. Strangely timid aroma for a Cantillon with much less funk than usual. Sesame seeds, oak, white eating grapes and salt and vinegar chips. Quite savoury and dry with some aspirin flavour and mild fruity sweetness. I was expecting something stomach-upsettingly sour like the FouFoune I had with kook, but it turned out to be one of the least sour Cantillon fruit lambics I’ve had. Feels a little hard or chalky. I dunno about this one, it wasn’t refreshing like I was expecting. By Cantillon’s standards this was disappointing. Lubiere (4463), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Dec 11, 2005 Hazy blonde lambic with a thick white head. Nice fresh white grape aroma with sour apples. Sweet white wine in mouth, with pleasant sourness and light bodied. Tart and fruity offering. Sampled at Quintessence Cantillon 2005. hammenlind (738), Sundbyberg, Sweden Nov 28, 2005 Hazy pale yellow, thin white head. Citric, grapefruit, rubber barnyard nose. Earthy, moist cellar flavour. Quite refreshing. Somewhat fruity palate. biz82 (1328), austin, Texas, USA Nov 13, 2005 Pours more carbonated than others I’ve had from Cantillon. Clear yellow. Very musky and sour aroma with meaty yeast in the aroma. Tart and dry with a kind of basement mold funkiness in the flavor. Very refreshing and not as acidic as some of their others. Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Oct 29, 2005 2004 bottling. I’ve had a bottle of this sitting around the house for a while, but when it became available at Capital Ale House, I felt it was a moral imperative to order it with lunch. Hazy medium gold and orange, slight, soft carbonation, but no head. Big horseblanket aroma, yet somehow refined versus brash. Flavor was horseblanket, barnyard, a touch of goat cheese, and something ethereal and lightly fruity floating sweetly in the background. Cantillon acidity is present, but a touch of sweet from the grapes remains in this relatively young beer. A wonderfully sophisticated beverage. rsmeds (220), Turku, Finland Oct 28, 2005 Cloudy orange colour, no head whatsoever.
Whoah. Mind-blowingly skunky sour aroma. Sulphur, blue cheese, stinky feet and yeast. Rather unpleasant, frankly.
Very dry, sour flavor of yeast, citrus and grapes.
Sticky, dry palate.
Certainly an aquired taste, but an interesting aquaintance nevertheless. I could probably enjoy this one if it weren’t for the appalling aroma. oh6gdx (8802), Vasa, Finland Oct 27, 2005 Updated: Feb 22, 2008Bottled. Apricotty orange colour, no head. Cantillonish sourness in aroma with weak hints of grape. Sourness and grape on flavour. (7 2 7 3 11).
Bottled. Hazy orange colour with almost non-existant head. Aroma is sour wood, with vanilla and some whitewineish notes. Flavour is much the same along with some sour berries added. Excellently balanced. 8 3 8 5 16.
