On tap @ Sherwood Pub, Nicorvo, Italy. It’s amazing how this drink dug in some taste memories of mine. Poured an absolutely gorgeous golden-orange with a fluffly off-white foam. I could feel the same smell you can find in many basements were they keep wine here where I live, some leather and, last but very present, the rhubarb note, very balsamic, with hints of honey and lemon. Really impressive. At the first taste I could feel the back of my jaw almost aching for the carbonation and the acidity, just like with fizzy candies, then it got really pleasant, the rhubarb/balsamic note mellowing the classic lemony lambic acidity. Very light in body, leaves your mouth dry and craving for more. I really hope it becomes a regular, I’m not a big fan of sour beers, but everyone liked it.

Bottle drank at the source as Zwanze 2012 on 9/6/14. Cantillon in Brussels. Pours clear golden colored with a big fluffy white head. Aroma of sweet sugars, tart rhubarb, dusty oak. Flavor has lots of funk, sweet and sour with light fruitiness, tart rhubarb with some twigs and dirt to go along, lemon tart finish. Very light bodied but with plenty of flavor and lots if carbonation. This was really nice, with the rhubarb influence subtle but noticeable.

As 2012, 750ml, at the Cantillon brewery with Kimberly and Taylod. Aroma is big funky fruity, more fruity than classic cantillon funk, not musky or earthy whatsoever, def strawberry notes, hint of wheat still coming through. Taste is funky, refreshing, pretty low acidity, sour, strawberry. A very nice Lambic.

Zwanze 2012 Sample@Quintessence 2014. Lambic à la rhubarb, super bon à boire qui offre un nez très fruité, suret, léger caramel, levure argileuse. Le corps malté est assez doux, rond sur une longueur moyenne développe un leger sirupeux: c’est du jus de rhubarbe suret réhaussé de saveurs maltées, légerment salées et peu amères. Super bien équilibré entre le fruit, le maltage et l’acidité assez fine en l’occurence. Assez moelleux et gouleyant.

Bottled. Pours deep golden body with a small white head. Aroma of rhubarb, brett, barnyard, funk and caramel notes. Medium bodied, watery to oily texture and soft carb. Sour flavor that ends up dry and tart. An excellent Lambik.

Initially big offwhite head, but shrinks quickly to medium. Hazy deep yellow body. Metallic waxy aroma. Dry, adicic and faintly sweet, faintly fruity and waxy taste. Mid-to-light body. Sharpish mouthfeel. Dry-acidic waxy metallic wooden afertaste with unidentifiable fruit notes. Nice, drinkable, subtle. (0.75l bottle at Cantillon.)

Bottle at Nick’s tasting thanks to JBeatty. 2012 Zwanze. Pours orange gold with white head. Nose/taste of rhubarb, spicy herb, funk, sour fruits, sour grapefruit and light acid funk. Medium body.

On tap at Quintessence. Pours clear golden coloured with a creamy egg white head. Aromas of sulphur, earth, white bread and citrus. Tart and dry flavour with notes citrus fruit, wood, and vinegar.

2012. Keg @ Akkurat and bottle @ The Brewery. First time I had it at Zwanze Day it delivered lots of rhubarb although not as well incorporated with the base beer. Now the fruit has grown into the beer and the sourness and rhubarb goes great together. I enjoy the acidity and tartness towards the end

Shared 2012 bottle at the brewery. Hazy gold, thin head. Vinegar nose, rather discreet. Fresh, balanced. Fruit, but hard to identify. Some sweetness. Light flavour, no real wow factor here.

Shared 2012 bottle at the cantillon brewery. Poured a hazy amber colour with a white head. Green Apples, grapes, acid, earth, "rabarber" tart, malty, medium carbonated. Nice touch of the rabarber. Real complex beer
