Every year, Cantillon has open brewing days, with animation, known as "Zwanze" in Brussels’ dialect. Fortwith, a special beer will be released every year, with every year a new ingredient: rhubarb for 2008.

Cloudy orange with a medium white head. Aroma had horse blanket, leather, oak and hints of rhubarb. Flavor was quite sour and dry with notes of barnyard, leather, wood, horse blanket, rhubarb. Even though I’d like to see new styles of lambic on the market, I don’t think rhubarb lambic is a winner. It wasn’t in 2008 and it still isn’t. I’d rather drink the Rosé de Gambrinus which I had minutes before, also on draft.

Clear golden with a medium white head. Aroma had lemons, barnyard and rhubarb. Sour flavour with barnyard, wood, leather and rhubarb. Finished sour. Much like a Gueuze really.

Zwanze 2012, bottle at the brewery. Pours a clear gold with small white head. Aroma is fantastic and complex: lemons, oak, slight graininess, Brett, grapefruit zest, red berries, rhubarb. Taste is mouth-puckering and lemony: rhubarb, if it was ever here, has mostly faded, leaving lemon, Basque cider, and orange peel, with sharp but clean finish. Slight red berries and rhubarb on finish lend nice complexity. Acid-lovers, rejoice. Great beer.

Bottle of the 2012 re-release at the brewery. No label other than a pen Z and yr on the bottle. Thanks to random Aussie stranger for sharing a glass! This rating is from memory so may not be the most accurate. Tt was a light yet complex gueze. Dry, tart, slightly acidic but not as much as some of the other Cantillon brews. Rhubarb was not at all strong. Well balanced beer.

På bryggeriet med Hasse och j Wallén. Subtil rabarber i doft. Tung syra och sedvanliga cantillontoner. Mindre rabarber i smak än i doft.

Pour into glass on Zwanze Day 2012 at Crooked Stave, hazy yellow-golden pour with thin white head, aroma brought big notes of funk, tart rhubarb in there with a celery note, hints of tart berries, lots of cheese, funky barnyard, straw and cracker, some citrusy lemon and yogurt come through. Taste is amazing as well, huge barnyard, cheesy funk, sweaty socks, goes into horsey notes into berry, rhubarb, celery, some citrus, lemon, slight lactic notes, finishing with more funk, nice and tart, more sweet berry notes.

Draught at alewife NYC. Aroma is light wild tart funk and quite grainy. Pours a hazy grain color almost still. Flavor is very dry wood kinda dead yeast and cheese rind. Barn funk. Feel is woody watery and dry. Not nearly so into it as I thought I would be

On tap at Avenue Pub for Zwanze Day 2012. Pours a cloudy orange with small frothy white head that leaves nice sticky lacing. The aroma is a strong rhubarb and funk. Thin mouthfeel with nice rhubarb flavor and light tartness. Really enjoyed this one.
