HonusWagner (1331) - Florida, USA - AUG 14, 2013
Original bottle courtesy of...Brian at Zwanze Day, also 2012 vintage. Tart red fruit, though not detectable as rhubarb because the flavor of rhubarb is kind of naturally overlapped with the flavor of a lambic in the first place, highish carbonation level, funk more detectable on the old bottling versus in your face sourness on the new. Very good but lacks the oomph of a LP Kriek or St. Lamvinus.

Bottled. Pours deep golden body with a small white head. Aroma of rhubarb, brett, barnyard, funk and caramel notes. Medium bodied, watery to oily texture and soft carb. Sour flavor that ends up dry and tart. An excellent Lambik.

larsga (6140) - Oslo, NORWAY - JUN 25, 2014
Initially big offwhite head, but shrinks quickly to medium. Hazy deep yellow body. Metallic waxy aroma. Dry, adicic and faintly sweet, faintly fruity and waxy taste. Mid-to-light body. Sharpish mouthfeel. Dry-acidic waxy metallic wooden afertaste with unidentifiable fruit notes. Nice, drinkable, subtle. (0.75l bottle at Cantillon.)

2012. Keg @ Akkurat and bottle @ The Brewery. First time I had it at Zwanze Day it delivered lots of rhubarb although not as well incorporated with the base beer. Now the fruit has grown into the beer and the sourness and rhubarb goes great together. I enjoy the acidity and tartness towards the end

Shared 2012 bottle at the brewery. Hazy gold, thin head. Vinegar nose, rather discreet. Fresh, balanced. Fruit, but hard to identify. Some sweetness. Light flavour, no real wow factor here.

Shared 2012 bottle at the cantillon brewery. Poured a hazy amber colour with a white head. Green Apples, grapes, acid, earth, "rabarber" tart, malty, medium carbonated. Nice touch of the rabarber. Real complex beer

Golden-amber color, fizzy small head. Very tart aromas, yeast, wet leather and of course rhubarb. Taste offers a lot more rhubarb, than the aromas displayed, along with vegetables, very fruity and refreshing. Of course going along with a tingy acidity, straw and hints of wood - but all of these ingredients only support the amazing, mellow rhubarb, and let it stand out. Great balance, not as tart as the usual Cantillon, focuses more on the fruits, which works very well. Aftertaste adds a subtle hint of lime, dry, and ends with a long refreshing sourness.

The addition of rhubarb seems such a match made in heaven for a lambic, and the intense tastes notwithstanding, proves for a truly unique beverage. Such a treat to smell the rhubarb lambic marriage, reminiscent of the pies my grandmother used to make mixed with some more recent olfactory memories. I really enjoy the dry, earthiness that comes through in the form of fresh rhubarb, as well as the beet colored hue in my glass. Quite a frothy, messy foam with sparse particulate matter, certainly not ashamed of its farmhouse roots. A splendid example of what the Zwanze series is all about.
