Sampled at Zwanze day 2011 at the Churchkey. Hazy yellow pour with a white head. Aroma was funky, grassy, some really light fruit. Lots of subtlety in this one, but really rewarding for all that. Light fruit notes, nothing overly aggressive as far as funk. Really mellow. Nice.

750mL all to myself at Churchkey for Zwanze Day 2011. Rating #2900 on this site. The pour is a fully hazy grapefruit juice color...hazy yellow peach with a healthy white head. Nice retention and little webby lace. Nose is quite intense with grapefruit pith and peach like Cantillon Iris. Fully funky but still soft with small lemon, curaçao. Taste is tart and citric sharp with lots of sour fruit leather piling on. Great palate. Very refreshing, complex, and fully lactic sour. Awesome leathery palate like Iris- bitter grapefruit, quenching lemon like Gatorade, saltwater. So good. Softer than Iris and not as lemon heavy as 1900 Grand Cru. Has that unblended lambic feel that I love but with effervescent carbonation. Sort of like Iris Light. For witbier, it is without a doubt two standard deviations beyond anything that could ever possibly be called such a style. Good thing it got kicked out of that category. Just too unfair. 8/4/9/5/17=4.3

4oz sample from bottle Zwanze Day 2010. Poured a slightly cloudy medium orange color, very small head/lacing. Aroma is tart, with wild Belgian yeast notes, mellow. Tart notes of unripe strawberries were what I recognized in the flavors as I consumed this one. Enjoyed this quite a bit!

Bottle, Zwanze Day at Churchkey. Very hazy pale tan pour with a some head, but mostly flat looking with little carbonation. Tart funky aroma. Very woody and oaky. Tart with a considerable amount of funk and barnyard. Bitter citrus peel. Some carbonation when it first hits the tongue. Tannic bitter funk lingers on the back of the tongue.

Bottle, Zwanze Day at Churchkey. Pours hazy gold with a small, fizzy white head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is funky, sour grapes and apples, loads of phenols mixing it up, and light hay malt. The aroma is really complex. Flavor is sour grapes, light apple and pear notes, phenols and funky yeast dancing around, and straw and hay malt with a dry finish. Acidity is rather balanced in this beer. Light body, low warmth and carbonation.
