Review taken from notes I wrote on a scrap of paper. Served on tap at Zwanze Day ’11 at West Lakeview Liquors. Sampled in my newly acquired Cantillon tasting flute. Zwanze pours a light pinkish red with about a half fingers worth of thin white head. Not much to add in terms of lacing as the head dissipates rather quickly. Nose is predominately pepper, grape, light cherry, lemon rind, grass, must, and horse blanket. The taste follows suit with more grape and lemon rind, cob web, and pepper on the finish. I was told at Zwanze Day that the pepper character actually came from the grapes that were used in Zwanze ’11....pretty interesting. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied, with pleasant acidity, light carbonation, and a nice finish. Though I still need to try Zwanze ’08 (which I thankfully have in my cellar), this has been my favorite of the series by far. I hope Zwanze Day happens for years to come, couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day.

Hazy cherry-amber in colour with a thin white head, light lacing. The aroma is of raspberries, cherries, grape skins, some horseblanket. The flavour is tart, grape skins, acidic, some oak, and funk. Acidic mouthfeel, medium/light body, medium carbonation. Finishes long, acidic and dry.

Cantillon always get me, this is no different. Quite delicious.

Draught at Dieu du Ciel 13th Anniversary Party on September 17, 2011.

Draught at Akkurat. Thinn but lasting light grey head. Deep red / raspeberry color. Dry and crisp aroma. Bone dry and crisp taste with fruit. The taste is small but amazing. One of the best fruit lambics I’ve tried. The taste has a tuch of red currants and some woody aromas.

Hazy red-amber color, bright; with pink head. Wonderful aroma; initially it’s peppery, very powerful, then the pepper fades a bit and a more usual smell of cellar and cobwebs; later the fruit joins too; finally, only sweat and cellar aroma. Dry mouthfeel, very sour, with a clear wine flavor too; the pepper note is very elegant and pleasant; the acidity is less aggressive than in other Lambics from Cantillon; also the final astringency is mild; in the end there is a vague cheesy touch.
Fantastic refreshing Lambic.

A later glass was digging at the bottom of the shaken keg, it pours a murky red-brownish color, with pinkish head; the aroma doesn’t change, but the mouthfeel is rounder, almost sweeter.

At the brewery - Watermelon and loads of hazy colour, tuna. Lightly cheesy but with heaps of pulpy grape flesh and pear and tannins. Very herbal fruity and mild. Peppery notes, pasaionfruit sourness and blackberry syrup. Lightly tongue numbing.

UPDATED: APR 16, 2012 Bottled. (Rating #700) Pours a bright red, with a thin white head. The aroma is very complex, lots of red fruit and grapey notes, spicy, pepper, hints of roasted coffee, wood, grass, brett, earth, straw. Bone dry, medium bodied, low bitterness, low CO2. Tart, acidic, complex taste, spicy, grapes, red fruit, grass, pepper, wood, faintly toasted, funky brett aromas are quite subdued, earth. Another fantastic beer from Cantillon. (2011-04-12)

Bottle at the brewery, shared with Paul and James during Paul’s Pre-Wedding Beer Weekend. Pours clear, muted red with a fluffy, white head. Big peppery aroma. Light sweet flavor, lots of pepper and spice, some fruit, restrained sourness, and light perfume-like floral notes. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly dry finish with some subtle fruit, spicy pepper, understated tartness. A very interesting lambic with all the pepper notes. Really nice.

As an aside, while slowly working our way through our beers we realized we had about five minutes to get to our train at the nearby station. My two companions, lightweights that they are, couldn’t manage to slam the rest of their beers quickly so opted instead to leave some unfinished (it was before noon). I wouldn’t stand for this, you’ll be happy to hear, and downed the remaining Zwanze in two brief flourishes. We then scuttled off to the train, which we made it to on time.
