Review taken from notes I wrote on a scrap of paper. Served on tap at Zwanze Day ’11 at West Lakeview Liquors. Sampled in my newly acquired Cantillon tasting flute. Zwanze pours a light pinkish red with about a half fingers worth of thin white head. Not much to add in terms of lacing as the head dissipates rather quickly. Nose is predominately pepper, grape, light cherry, lemon rind, grass, must, and horse blanket. The taste follows suit with more grape and lemon rind, cob web, and pepper on the finish. I was told at Zwanze Day that the pepper character actually came from the grapes that were used in Zwanze ’11....pretty interesting. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied, with pleasant acidity, light carbonation, and a nice finish. Though I still need to try Zwanze ’08 (which I thankfully have in my cellar), this has been my favorite of the series by far. I hope Zwanze Day happens for years to come, couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day.

Unlabeled Pinot d?aunis. I prefer the Menu Pineau over this one which I find less complex (relative to MP). Still great grape aroma and flavor where the aroma has a musty "dark" depth that I havent found in other grape Cantillons.

Unlabeled Pinot d’aunis. Aroma is very unuque unlike any other grapebeer Cantillon makes. Flavour is complex and when it warms up the grapes really show. Great beer.

Sampled upon release in 2011 as zwanze, at the Spuyten Dyuvil Lamic Fest 2010 as Pinot d’ Aunis, as well as several other times since then, most recently at Denver Ghost Tasting in October 2013. Continues to be of my top Cantillon experiences. The acidity from the grapes is hardly affected by the addition of hops in the Zwanze 2011 version, and Pinot d’Aunis on its own is perhaps in my top 3 favorite grape cantillon. Both are a gerat testament to the experimentation Jean has worked on with unique grape varietals. Menu Pineau, also to be noted in this rating, is another ’variant’ that has transcended space and time for me. Incredible balance of sourness and tannins in every of the above example of a Cantillon using this pinot supplier. A pleasure to have in any setting or context.

Bottle at Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Pours cloudy golden with a white head. Aroma is somewhat funky, grapes, some sweet sugar/malts, floral and acidic. Taste is moderate sour and moderate sweet. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. Nice.

Notes from backlog. A great lambic, with a well-balanced tartness, but not as much grape as I had hoped. Still awesome

PBW Lambic Summit 2010. A bit on the sweet side for a grape lambic, but nice peppery notes and a good tart grape quality that doesn’t get overwhelmed by the more traditional yogurty tartness.

Reviewed as Pinot d’Aunis on 12-27-10 thanks to Jeppe.

Pours a reddish/brown, some chunks of stuff here and there, a very small head that reduces down to a few bubbles. No retention or lacing, looks like a glass of Pinot (!). Oak, grapes, lots of herbs/spices. Lots of pepper/spice notes, which I’m not sure I really like, but it’s not bad by any means. Decent sour/tart, some funk, lots of oak and spices. It’s not mind-blowing, but very unique and different. Light, low carbonation, dry/oaky finish. The carbonation really hurts the feel.

Pinot di Aunis, bottle poured into a cantillon taster. Big thanks to Manuele from Ma Che Siete for hooking me up with this world class beer and big thanks to Jbeatty for trading me another A- dark orange with creamsicle looking head N- Huge depth of white and red grapes. red wine, vineous with an earthy/grassy and almost pepper yeast funk. T- wow,..... wow.... by far top 3 of the day for our 4/20/13 tasting which consisted of veritas vertical, loerik, YB, eszett. Uli blends, beekeeper, le woody so on and so forth. I freakin love this fine liquid. earthy funk, pepper spice, vineous red wine, cobb webb. such a combination of deep characteristics. simply amazing. M- Light, airy, smooth, gods nectar poured into a cantillon tasting glass O- One of my favorite Cantillons. Cant wait to see how my other bottle ages. I think ill open it in 2031.... in the meantime ill be ISO a few more bottles so that I can see what 5 yr intervals does to this one.

Sampled at Zwanze Day 2011 @ Holy Grale. Pours a reddish amber color with a medium sized pinkish head. The aroma is tart, vinous, moderate funk, peppery, with some grass and horse blanket. The flavor is tart, funky, musty grapes, berries, grassy and very easy to drink. This with all the other nice beers made the trip worth it.
