Draught at Pikkulintu. Pours murky brown dark orange amber with minimum head. Notes of vinegar, sour, apples, very bitter at the beginning, floral. Taste is funky, bitter, sour. Kind of weird. Does not seem like an trippel.

Bottle at the brewery. Pours orange amber with a beige head. Aroma has some caramel, vanilla, oak, leather and funk. The taste has some caramel, leather, balsamic, grapefruit feel and is pretty bitter, sweet and funky at the same time. Strange and unexpected indeed.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Drank this complicated beauty at this years Zwanze day at Mother Lambic Fontainas. I got a lovely glass of light brown orange-amber beer with a thin, white, open moussy head in front of me... Right... where for Lambicssake do you start discribing this sort of beer?! Iíll just jot down what I found, but donít think thatís all to it, thereís a world more in there, but I donít have all day, so you better start exploring that in your own time...
The aroma I found was of sour grapes, wet leather, (unripe and green) fruit, beautiful lactic acidic notes, hint of orange like fruit, grape peel, and unfortunately (although apparently in Lambiek and Geuze completely accepted and normal) slight urinal whiff underlaying it all.
This beer has an almost yoghurt-like soft sourness to its taste, with grape peel, sour plum, peach, grapefruit, notes of old sherry, earthy hints of hops that come from the background, nutty notes too. Itís got a bitter and sour aftertaste well balanced, and a silky, oily mouthfeel which is not too dry, infact I would tag this beer as rather fruity! And that rimes (how naff...) with what it is; a beauty! Actually, dissecting this kind of beer is fine and all that, but I think only poetry is best adapted and suited to describe this kind of craftmanship. Who knows, maybe Iíll give that a go one day, when imbibed with enough inspiration...!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught shared at Moeder Lambic Fontainas on Zwanze 2015, merci oldmanriver. One of the odder specimens of the odd crossover style "Tripel Geuze" of which Vicaris is a more precise and shining example. Smells like soggy, musty-sweet earth after rainfall, peachy tripel esters turned into an antedeluvial decomposing orchard. Same boggy mustiness in taste, where quality honey malts and forward bitter hops linger as a shadow of themselves, dried out by Cantillon funk imprecisions. Unsure of what the taste wants to be, could just as well be a cellared and oxidised Belgian Abbey Tripel...

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Zwanze edition of 2013, for sale at Moeder Lambic Fontainas during this yearís Zwanze Day. Apparently a ícoupageí of abbey tripel (hence the name) with 10% Cantillon lambic, further ílambicizedí by wild refermentation. Sticky, off-white, thick and irregular head over a hazy orange amber coloured beer. Strong and surprisingly unusual, yet appealing aroma of old sherry, wet hay, gooseberries, peach, fresh orange, wet leather, honey sweetness peeping through, medlar, yoghurt. Very estery onset, green plum, orange, redcurrant, sherry vinegar sourness forming a thin line of acidity from beginning to end but the overall profile is softly tart with sedated lactic acidity, albeit very refreshing; bready malts and wheaty ísoapinessí make up the backbone, there is a certain citrus peel freshness to it, and in the end a deep, earthy echo of hops can be felt from underneath the tartness; lambic ífunkinessí further dries the finish. One of the most unusual íversnijbierení I had so far but certainly pleasing.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
(750ml bottle @ the Cantillon brewery, July 28 2015) Pours lights hazed deep amber with a small white head lingering with lace. Aroma is stewed pears, dates, candy sugar or Demerara, tart. On the palate, an unholy collision of sweet, sour acid and serious bitterness. Notes of citrus juice, especially grapefruit, underripe apricot, lactic, some grainy and caramel malts, finish is bitter and tannic with a lot of wood, grain and a bit of pith. Light to medium bodied with a higher than average carb. Well, itís definitely odd! Itís not bad, though itís not what you expect from Cantillon going in. If you suspend that it is a fairly interesting if not excellent beer on its own merits. Glad I tried it.
