3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 Kestral (494) - Årnes, - JUL 14, 2011
Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy ruby, with a small off white head that diminishes quickly. Aromas of toasted malts, caramel, nuts and a slight fruity note. Not a lot more going on in the flavour department, but it leans a bit more towards roasted malts here than on the nose. Alcohol does come through a bit in the finish, which is a bit bland and watery. Medium to light bodied, sparse carbonation. Could have used more bubbles. Otherwise alright, but nothing to seek out.

330ml bottle (One Pint Pub, Helsinki, Spanish Weeks 2011)
5 slightly weird sweet stodgy gingery aroma . Ginger only comes through as a hint in the retr
3 Mid orange, small brief off-white head.
5 Weird, wonderful rettronasals - an explosion in an ester factory. Messy sweet body, residuall sugars high. Almost acrid wooliness.
3+ sweetness already covered, it is a little over-smooth, but shy of slimy. Carbonation helps keep that at bay. Finish makes the most of the woolines, with a nice dry wooly bitterness. Definitely better when the beer isn’t in you mouth!
10 No sign of 6.5% at all. Not really a particularly good beer, but once you’re past the weird initial hump, and don’t let the retronasals kick in, the dry bitterness in the finish keeps you wanting another glug.

Red coppery body, white head. Aroma of malt, berries and sugar, little sourness. Flavour has raisins, berries, caramelly malt and alcohol warmth.

330 ml bottle. As Cap d’Ona Ambrée Torrada. From Reims, France. Courtesy of Brandman.
Clear amber colour with tiny head.
Malt, mild sourness, mild bitterness and that’s about it. Flavour is pretty much the same. Quite smooth. Some alcohol. Not my favourite.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 12HundredBaud (262) - Sausalito, California, USA - JUL 17, 2011
UPDATED: JUL 18, 2011 33cl. bottle from a beer retailer. It pours a not entirely clear copper liquid with a medium-high beige head that lasts throughout the beer but leaves almost no lacing. The aroma is light, mostly malty, sweet. There are hints of caramel and a little toffee. There is also a nice presence of yeast. It tastes far more complex, basically malty, with a nice mixture of caramel, toffee, nuts, dried fruits, yeast and a few ripe dark fruits. Very high sweetness. In the mouth it feels light-medium bodied, with a mild and kind of lively little bubble carbonation. It ends dry, with an aftertaste of sweet caramel and ripe fruit. Presentation is average (and no customzed crown cap) for a caprice beer.
