Dang! This beer is really strong. I had it from a bottle in Gloucester and saw it on tap in Magnolia. It seems to be a fairly typical strong porter-like lager. Nutty, with a caramel-colored head, which quickly dissipates. This is an OK beer to drink very slowly (as with dinner) and not one to have a couple of during the game. Go Sox!

Tap at GIBF. Malty aroma with hints of caramel and some metallic notes. Maybe some pine notes as well. Mildly hazy honey color with a light tan head. Quite malty to start with some caramel and smoked hints. Nice bitter hoppy finish. Nice beer.

UPDATED: FEB 24, 2005 2004 draught @ Ithaki. Looks the part, good mix of browns and ambers, quite bright with a small white head. Aroma of very light brown malts, hints of sugar and a good dose of bitter hops. Flavor is very hoppy up front with some touches of caramel towards the finish, but it never really brings enough malt and you get a dry, almost metallic finish that is too bitter and just seems like another average APA. Medium body, somewhat watery on the finish. It’s drinkable enough, but quite unspectacular.

Tap @ Barcade. Cloudy ornage color with no real head. Taste is dank, almost like wet forest floor. Birch, seasalt and oyster shells. Funky bitterness. Kind of grows on you towards the end of the pint.

GABF 2004. Light yellow-orange, slightly hazy, with small, fizzy and quickly diminishing head. Very light, grainy aroma. Don’t let your mind wander, or you will miss this short-lived, lightly sweet flavor. Thin bodied, watery, and weak. The worst of the beers I tried at GABF.

Art of Beer Festival 2004: Has a nice amber color with some carbonation and a some lacing. Smell is sweet malted. Taste is sweet malted with slight roasted flavor and finishes moderately bitter. Overall I am not a fan of the amber beer, but this one is not too bad.
