Sampled at Julio’s during a beer tasting festival. Dark pour with a tan head. Pretty tasty though did not detect much pumpkin and was a tad sweeter than I usually like.

Pours a dark brown color. Aroma is of malts, some chocolate, and some roastiness. Flavor is pretty similar. Not really any pumpkin present. Leaves a roasty chocolate and nut finish. This is more of a brown ale than a stout.

VTHopHead (1389) - Barre, Vermont, USA - OCT 23, 2011
Sampled at The Great Lost Bear - Pours a dark black/brown in color with a small tan head. Aroma contains the typical pumpkin spices, but little pumpkin. Some of the dark roasted malts... mild chocolate and coffee. Some of the pumpkin flavor appears in the tasting along with roasted malts, mild chocolate and hints of coffee. Plenty of spices to go along with all of that. Finish is lingering with mild chocolate, pumpkin spices and some bitterness... from some hops or the dark malts or even the spices. I liked this one...

A decent stout but I’m not getting much pumpkin. The aroma is malty and smoky with some booze. Pours a dark brown with a tan head. The flavor has the malt and smoke and a nice warming burn but where is the pumpkin?

Bottle at a recent BA/RB tasting... Poured near black with a light tan head. I got a lot of spice here, especially nutmeg. Some dark roasted malt, little bit of sweetness and pie crust.

Pours black into a snifter. Mocha head with medium retention recedes to hug rim. Pumpkin and nutmeg aromas. Medium bodied with sweet chocolate upfront turning to pumpkin before the lasting spiced espresso finish.

Draft. Pours near black with a beige head. Pumpkin pie and spicy aroma with some lightly roasted malts. The flavor is more roasty than the aroma, with lighter pumpkin pie spices and light chocolate. Good stuff.

Pretty good stuff. Aroma of allspice, coffee, burnt toast. Flavor is spices, pumpkin, good roasty flavor. My main complaint is the malts taste a little light and not very rich and flavorful. Could have been great but was only good.

Bottle from Brackets for Beer. 2010 vintage. Black pour with a small off white head. Aroma was a heady mix of dark roast, bits of coffee and a light but present pumpkin spice. I thought the stout base for a pumpkin beer worked very well. Flavors were similar with more of the pumpkin coming through. Quite drinkable, mouthfeel was medium to thin. I wish others would attempt this style, it’s promising.
