COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fishermanís Pumpkin Stout is a dark stout accentuated by flavors of the Autumn season. Using real pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice, the Cape Ann Brewing Company took a fresh take at the common fall seasonal. This rich dark stout offers an inviting pumpkin spice aroma that gives way to the delicate essence of real pumpkin.

12oz. bottle. Dark brown with red highlights and a small beige head. Mild pumpkin spice aroma(nutmeg, cinnamon, brown sugar) along with some roasted notes and a bit of chocolate. Lightly bitter roasted malt flavor works well with the sweet spices. The pumpkin spice flavors start to realy emerge as the beer warms. Pretty tasty.

Bottle. Pours a deep brown with a fairly thick tan head. Rich aroma of roast malts, chocolate, and a hint of pumpkin. The flavor has more pumpkin and spice (mainly cinnamon and nutmeg). More stout than pumpkin beer, and an interesting and enjoyable brew.

Bottled. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is cinnamon and pumpkin primarily with a hint of something else. Maybe nutmeg? Flavor is some cinnamon and pumpkin spice up front with a pretty robust malty character that youdí expect from a stout. I think it balances it well but the flavor is really only slightly pumpkin spices. No big pumpkin flavors jump out, itís also not super balanced. Itís an ok pumpkin stout, but it also has a mouthfeel and carbonation like a porter to me. Ok, nothing exceptional, but not bad.

The body has very dark brown, nearly black color with a small white head on top. In no time the small head is reduced to just a wispy thin layer of off white foam. Lacing is next to nothing with just a few slick spots of lace. The aroma is that of a basic stout, dark roasted maltiness, with some modest pumpkin flesh notes and hints of spice. There is a nice light cinnamon and nutmeg spice blended into a nice roasty/toasty stout base. Pumpkin notes are also present but subdued. The overall feel was medium bodied and a little bit light and very drinkable.

12 oz bottle into a wine glass. A: Pours a very dark brown color. The head is a one finger khaki shade with surprisingly good retention. Good rings of lacing are left on the glass, too. S: Smells like a pumpkin ale. Itís reasonably well-spiced, but not extraordinarily so. I also pick up a little bit of caramel sweetness. Not much stout qualities come through, though, and thatís a bit of a problem. T: Again, this is supposed to be a pumpkin stout, so whereís the stout part? I pick up mostly opening cinnamon/nutmeg with a touch of finishing caramel. Having said that, I actually get a touch of actual gourd character - and thatís pretty rare in a pumpkin ale (weird, eh?) Itís a bit imbalanced in terms of how the spice character overpowers the malt flavors, also. M: The only suggestion that this is a stout is in the mouthfeel, which is both creamy on the front end and mildly dry on the back end. Carbonation is a bit high for the style, though. It really has a wonderful feel, but the thickness doesnít do the drinkability any favors. O: This is just another pumpkin ale Iím not terribly enthused by, and the stout part is a letdown. However, itís not bad - it feels great in the mouth and isnít undrinkable. Itís just kind of boring is all. Worth trying, but I wonít buy again.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Pumpkin ales and stouts together usually make me very happy and this is no exception. The pour is jet black with a tan head and decent lacing. The aroma is both subtle but forward with its pumpkin spice, dark baked malts, yeast note, and dark fruit. Great marks for how it smells! The body is medium. Oh those dark malts and pumpkin spices really kick in on the taste with this very unique roasty-toasty character. How did I miss this one before now?

Pours a dark molasses color with a head of good retention. Aromas spicey of nutmeg, clove upfront, roasted malt behind and hints of cinnamon. Flavors of medium roasted malt, nut, cinnamon, caramel malt, slight lactose, medium sweet with a full mouth feel.
