This traditional Bavarian Hefe-Weizen (wheat beer) is popular in Bavaria during the spring and summer months. Pronounced Hay-fa-VI-tsen, this beer style is unfiltered and known for its unique banana and clove flavors, which come from the special German yeasts used in fermentation. It is light and wonderfully refreshing during the hot days of summer.

Draft. Average carbonation and hoppy aroma. Very smooth. Not quite as tasty as Cape Cod Red, but just as well polished. Clean finish. Will definitely buy again.

On tap at the brewery. Clear yellow pour with a white head. Banana and clove bouquet. Smooth with big wheat and mild clove/banana highlights. Refreshing with a nice body and mouthfeel.

Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a crystal clear gold colored body. There was not any head, but for all I know the bartender may have waited until it died to make sure I had a full beer. The carbonation was slowly rising but very light. It left little lacing and no rings. The smell had some mild graininess with some malts. There wasn’t much else. The taste was malty and sweet. The hops were barely there. The palate it was light, sessionable with its low ABV. Overall, I was somewhat impressed and liked it with the fish and chips I had. I am looking forward to trying more from Cape Cod Beers.

One of the better offerings from this brewer. Typical hefe color, unfiltered hazy yellow, white head that lasted awhile. This could use a better yeast strain to give it a more appetizing zest, but with a little help of a lemon slice, this was very enjoyable.

(Rating #3691)

Fancy swing top bottle. Pours a hazy golden amber with a thin white head. Big banana and light clove notes, softly sweet wheat. Smooth and sweet, light wheat. Very clean, nice wheat and soft banana yeast over gentle carbonation. Super smooth and easy drinking. If this stuff sticks around a bit, I can foresee going through a few growlers of it next time I’m back on the cape.

On tap at the Lobster Pot in P-Town. This is surprisingly a very good hefe. Nice aroma and classic refreshing mouthfeel with good spice and tropical flavor. Well done CCB!

In short: A clean and ultra-basic hefeweizen. As drinkable as it is unremarkable.
How: Tap at some restaurant on the Cape Cod
The look: Cloudy dark yellow body topped by a small white head
In long: Typical but strong hefe nose with lots of banana esters. Body has plenty of wheat, Shredded-Wheat™ breakfast cereals flavour, a little fluffy, semi-dry with a floury and doughy sensation, bananas. This is not a watery hefe. No sweetness. Pleasant to drink but this is just too basic bare-bone to give it high marks. The best of all the Cape Cod beer I’ve tried (grand total of 2) and a totally appropriate seasonal summer ale. A good reason to visit Cape Cod during the summer. That and the fact that swimming in freezing water doesn’t do miracles for the package.

Got a growler of this in Plymouth over the weekend. It pours a very nice golden haze with a good sized white head. Not overly strong legs, but in keeping with the style. The nose is bready with hints of banana and some sweetness. The first thought when it hit my mouth was "refreshing". The right amount of carbonation lifted the otherwise watery brew. It started off sweet with a subtle bubble gum flavor that is present through out but completely dominates the finish. Nice brew. I would pair it with a nice fried seafood lunch.
