cblado (146), Wisconsin, USA Jun 17, 2008 12 oz bottle. Poured a translucent mahogany color, a bit of a beige head on it. Aroma was a caramel malt. Flavor was very odd, it was definitely malty but lacked a bitter, hoppy, porter flavor. The incredibly thin, fizzy palate didn’t help either. This beer looks like a porter and acts like a lager... very confusing. It wasn’t terrible but I don’t intend on trying it again. CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Jun 16, 2008 Pours a transparent deep dark amber mahogany with a frothy, stringy-lacing beige head. Aroma of rich, sweet dark caramel malt and an authentic lager yeast profile with a touch of molasses and smoke. Body starts fairly full and sweet with some earthy dark caramel flavors, a touch of dark fruits, noble bittering hops and a drier semi-sweet finish. A pretty smooth Baltic porter, but it could use a little more dark malt character and color. Petrucci914 (574), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Jun 7, 2008 Pours a crisp clear brown color with a medium off-white head that fades to nothing. Aroma is sweet caramel malts and that’s about it. Taste is about the same. Ummm.......baltic porter? I don’t think so. This tastes like an Altbier. Ty5592 (1015), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 7, 2008 Bottle from KingpinIpa. Clear Brown color with medium sized head. Aroma of basic caramel malt. The taste was basic sweet caramel malt with light banana notes. I would not consider this a baltic porter, but then again I have been dranking baltic porters on steriods. Decent. Shag (1922), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA Jun 5, 2008 This poured a brown ruby color with a beige head. The aroma is chocolate, cherries, molasses, and alcohol. The flavor is rather sweet with some chocolate, molasses, and cherries. Overall this is a pretty good beer iowaherkeye (1832), Bakersfield, California, USA May 24, 2008 12oz bottle, no date (though I know it’s April or May 2008), thanks to Eric (heemer77). Clear dark ruby with a small light beige head, fading to a thin ring rather quickly. Lots of caramel and the metallic mineral notes that I get from a lot of lagers are dominant. There is also some toasty (and lighter roasty malts) and hints of raisins. Flavor is a fair amount grainier with caramel a close second. Aforementioned metallic notes still present throughout. The finish had some alcohol, raisins, and a bit of roasted malts. Light to moderate carbonation with a medium body. Not bad, but not fantastic, by any means. I don’t think it should average a 3.8, but maybe it was a different recipe from what was on tap a few months ago. swoopjones (1862), Buffalo, New York, USA May 21, 2008 On tap @ Maproom, Chicago. Great beer IMO. Pours a dark brown with slight reddish hue. Aroma is sweet, chocolatey some vanilla. Very smooth creamy mouthfeel. Bartender threw out notes so going on memory here. Slight sweet taste but well balanced & 8.5 % did not come across at all. well done Juelze (889), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA May 20, 2008 WTF??!! This does not look like a Baltic Porter. Pours a reddish color with thin off white head. Aroma is cherry, banana, light chocolate, and light vanilla. Taste is caramel malt, brown sugar, light bit of cherry and chocolate. It’s a bit too fizzy for a Baltic Porter, but on the plus side, the alcohol is well hidden. Not bad, but a total misnomer when it comes to the style.
