Not a bad effort. Lots in common with its foreign ancestors except depth. Nice dark bown with some lighter highlights. Malty nose with a hint of fruit and flowers. Lots of carmel and a little chocolate and cream in the flavor. Sweet finish. Don’t taste the booze. Good beer! Having a draft of this at Bodega Brew Pub, downtown La Crosse, Wis.

[Growler, thanks for sharing Skyview] Pours dark brown with a small light tan head. Aroma is very sweet and fruity with banana the easiest to pick out. Taste is also very sweet with some roasted malt. Quite smooth. Not bad.

Aroma is caramel, dull hops, and a little bit of a bock and chocolate-sweet aroma. Taste is sweet, alcoholic, chocolate, nuts, and astringent. Has a full mouth, but still comes off as uninspired and sourish. Not very good.

Bottle from Heritage. Pours a thin black color with an amber tint and a fleeting tan head. Smells of tart cherries and coffee roast. Tastes of cola, bitter coffee, hops, and bland bakers cocoa. Has a decent malt profile, but the flavor is a bit weak.

(bottle) Pours dark ruby brown with an off-white head that leaves nice lacing in the snifter. Nice aroma of cherries, chocolate, honey, and toasted nuts. The flavor is nowhere near as good as the aroma would indicate, and it’s incredibly difficult to pinpoint exactly what’s there because the flavors are so brief. There’s a faint flavor of roasted malt, and a light honey sweetness. The mouthfeel is light to medium.

Not sure who sent me this, but thanks. Pour is a dark, earthy brown. Nice brown head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate and roast malt. Bitter up front ending sweet and malty. Interesting flavor. Thin, but very smooth and drinkable.

Capital night at Three Cellars Milwaukee. FANTASTIC !! In fact I find it hard to compare it to anything… very smooth and rich. Almost or wine like in its richness.. Perfect blending of the malts and hop. No harsh after taste or bite.

Summary: Very drinkable, straightforward roasted malt beer. Aroma: Plenty of nose, mainly bourbon and vanilla. Appearance: Darkest brown in the glass, red when backlit, thin tan head, no lace. Flavor: Roast malt, and a lot of it, bitter and sweet are well balanced. Molasses is the primary malt characteristic, then a smoked, ashy finish. Palate: Drinks clean and smooth, with a little dust on the finish.
